Re: Rigging question

Thanks for the input on the repair. I am working on it and not sailing in meantime :-(

The mast is deck stepped and too long to come down in the slip. So my plan at this point is c-clamp the...

Re: What's the right thing to do?

I agree with those who see no liability in the for you. However a token offer towards the repair ain't a bad idea either unless of course his boat and dink leave an impression of signifant resources...

Rigging question

Probably hard to imagine without pics but I noticed the starboard spreader/lower shroud tang on the mast had pulled away at the top due to two rivets having popped. A large bolt in the center of the...

Re: Ocean baby rescue underway off Mexico

I do not have a dog in this fight nor an opinion about kids on boats. I just want to ask a question. When in the world did it become impossible to exchange opinion without rancor? Like the guy said,...

Re: Cetol Marine Finish Woes

I too think wood prep is key. It is very easy to stop just short of the final sanding surface needed. Any "soft" teak layer will create a less than perfect application of any varnish. My guage for...

Fear no screw!

Probably already well known but thought I would share. I had about 10 1" brass screws to remove. All were square drive, 48 years old and stripped round. I took a small star drive and a drill bit...

Re: Need a creative solution

Good thoughts all... Thanks. Maybe because it is so short but that section actually feels stiffer than the rest of the aluminum frame. Bill filling sounds like a good idea...

Re: Need a creative solution

Zoom in to see lower leg extensions from copper tubing... Cost me $10 versus a new bimini at $300... Still have to figure out strapping but I think this will work if the sun ever comes out again...

Re: Singlehanding Pedestal Steering

I single a lot with wheeled steering. Lines run aft to primary winches let's me handle jib without getting up. I make the turn by grabbing wheel with thighs or use wheel lock leaving hands for jib...

Re: "The 2 happiest days of a boatowners life are..."

So encouraged by this thread. My wife was beginning to worry insinuating that there was something wrong with me because I think, talk about, or visit the boat almost every day.... I will show her...

Re: Operating a boat in another state?

I too am a doubter in terms of how much actual sailing you would get to do. I would encourage you to not overlook Lake sailing too quickly. It can be a great way to start. The ocean might work better...

Thanks... Got a hat :-) ... The extensions idea sounds possible. Will check to see where might find tubing. Any idea if Home Depot carries?

Need a creative solution

See my profile pic. That smaller bimini has been replaced by a new dodger. Now I want to move the bimini aft and install it like a "normal" bimini covering most of the cockpit.

The problem is that...

Re: Teak project started

Going with the Minwax SV, straight off a HD shelf, I thought I was using something more designed for outdoor furniture and such. My research did not identify vry many using it for marine purposes....

Re: should I be offended?

Just got this pic of sailing today... thought it might fit here. Please ignore ugly fold-a-boat on foredeck... I will take that dingy off the boat before any contest pics. :-0

Re: should I be offended?

Wow sounds like I triggered some latent boat envy. Maybe we need a "prettiest boat" contest with contestants submitting 3 photos with one under sail. Soon as I get my teak done I will start...
