Re: bottom feeding, democracy, and economics

Social hierarchy in the US equates STRICTLY to money. Class, grace, distinction, looks, courage, intelligence and strength don't enter into it at all. Before he went to the slammer, Madoff was the...

Handheld GPS recommendations

I am shopping for a handheld GPS as a backup system for my boat and for kayaking . My ideal unit would be:
1. Waterproof.
2. Floats.
3. Large, clear display easily visible in
Bright sunlight....

Re: Notice To Mariners: New Reef off Key West

With respect, PTSD is recognized as a wound. It was formerly called "shell shock" and (again respectfully) he was using veterans with PTSD as a foil to make a rather obscure joke.

I assure you...

Re: Notice To Mariners: New Reef off Key West

Abandoned vessels have been an issue in Florida for a long while and the state is just now starting to really crack down.

Re: Notice To Mariners: New Reef off Key West

Actually my point was that ridiculing wounded veterans (physical or mental wounds) is in incredibly poor taste and, at the very least, indicates poor social skills. More likely it indicates serious...

Re: Notice To Mariners: New Reef off Key West

Didn't really notice the lighthearted or pithy part, even those of us from flyover country recognize a witty writer....sorry bout that.

And....

Re: Meaner?

If a stranger is too forward with me, too chummy too soon, and I get the creeps. I always feel like the person wants to sell me something.
I far prefer to meet at some bar or party on the dock; then...

Re: What kind of weapon to keep aboard my new dinghy?

A stainless steel revolver such as the Taurus Judge would be a good choice. I carry one when I kayak in remote areas and it is effective, not too heavy, and not too expensive.

Re: What stops Americans cruising the world?

I've heard that from others too and I don't doubt it, I've been to Crete but only for two days. I am also looking forward to spending a bit more time in Britain and Ireland.

Europe is GREAT and...

Re: What stops Americans cruising the world?

I believe that it is mostly a matter of convenience and price; its just quicker and easier to get down to the Carribean than to make it across the pond. Having said that, I have spent a fair bit of...

While there were some obvious technical errors, I understand that this movie is a work of art and I found it refreshing when compared to the drivel normally put out by Hollywood.

No gratuitous...

Re: Recreational Sailboat vs. Tugboat with Barge: Who Has the Right of Way? - See mor

You are exactly right, a tug-and-barge is simply a motor vessel. However, a prudent sailor will give her a wide berth, make large and obvious course changes, and communicate in plenty of time if...
