I'm planning on picking up my new boat and leaving Kingston NY May 16th and heading up the Hudson, entering the Erie Canal to Oswego. Any advice, info and time frames would be appreciated.

Old thread but consider getting a welder with a magma cutter to cut the cradle (asuming steel), ship it and get another welder to reassemble it at the other end.

Just aquired a copy of said book by Ken Wells, 1958 Kingswood House, and am part way through. Having sailed the Bay in the lates 70's I really enjoy his wit and the descriptions of what went before....

How did you find the actual locking conditions? Did you use fender boards? I 'm going to be doing it in a 6,500lb 30' cat with a 13'-6" beam and also wondering what your boat weighs....

I'm planning on a transit to Georgian Bay and wondering if exiting at Oswego, puting the mast up and doing the Welland Canal would be better than sticking with the Eire Canal to Buffalo?
