Re: What's this called, and where can I get a thumbscrew to replace the screw?

Does it really matter in this case? This is for a 150lb boat with a 2:1 block and 80 sq. ft. of sail area.

Genius! I think we use these to attach the jib to the forestay on the Hobie cats....

Re: Escape Rumba Help

Thanks a ton! Just want to make sure I'm not "downgrading" to a lesser boat by moving to the Rumba.

I need one more thing, hopefully someone can help me out here. See, my boat, for which I paid...

Re: Escape Rumba Help

Can anyone perchance comment on the Rumba vs a Sunfish? I haven't been out on my Rumba yet (got it Saturday...currently assessing small repair), yet I'm considering selling the Sunfish because I...

Re: Sirocco 15 daysailer a good first "real" boat?

Thanks for the input! Yeah, on one hand they look to be limited to the gelcoat itself, but on the other hand there's the saying that there's "no such thing as a surface crack." We'll see. Is there...

Sirocco 15 daysailer a good first "real" boat?

Hi all,

I believe I joined this forum last summer when I purchased my Sunfish, but otherwise I'm pretty much new to the boards. My sailing experience includes several dozen hours on the Sunfish...

Re: How to repair very small crack in Escape Rumba (13' plastic sailboat)?

Thanks for the tips, Robert! Is the fact that the crack is ever so slightly recessed in the rear of the keel trunk going to be a problem here? I would've done a duct tape weld like on my Sunfish had...

Re: How to repair very small crack in Escape Rumba (13' plastic sailboat)?

Actually my thinking was that, because the boat is plastic, the rock hard epoxy would not work so well. I've worked with epoxy and fiberglass before, though not in the context of boats.

How to repair very small crack in Escape Rumba (13' plastic sailboat)?

I picked up a ten year old Escape Rumba the other day for $50. The only problem with it is a very small crack - 2.5" x 1/8" - towards the back of the swing keel slot (is this called the trunk?). It's...

What's this called, and where can I get a thumbscrew to replace the screw?

No picking on me here...I'm new. What's the name of this piece of hardware, and can I replace just the screw part, which requires a screwdriver to remove, with a thumbscrew or quick release version...

New to sailing - Sunfish for $250?

About a year ago I had the chance to go sailing on a 32' sailboat on Lake Michigan. Now, only a year later, I randomly came across some free Sunfish hulls. While I missed this deal, it led to a lot...
