Re: Cal 29 Beam of death

It seems that given the material they used it is not if, but when they go bad. As long as you know it ahead of time it does not have to be a deal killer. Kind of like buying a Honda Odyssey with a...

Re: My Marina

I am not sure when Social Security number became such a top secret thing. When I was college in the 80's it was our college ID number and was printed on our id, and it used to be printed on our...

Re: Need help/advice sailing from NYC to Marthas Vineyard

Well I have no advice to add, other than it being one of the most beautiful small boats to do it in!

Re: Electric Propulsion, Anyone Using It?

Well I think more than lower resale, it more limits your market to people willing to live with the restrictions. Similar to Atomic 4, some folks love them, others want nothing but a diesel.

Re: Gaf rigged inflatable questions..

and if it has not been in the water in almost 30 years make sure it holds air and bounce on the tubes quite a bit in the yard to make sure the seams are good.

Re: Financing

What would the bank want to do a 2 year loan for? There would not be enough interest in it for them. Look for a longer term, making sure it does not have early payment penalty and just pay it off...

Re: Looking for some opinions on our shortlist of boats!

I like the boat, a lot. I think given the condition of the boat she is likely well over priced (I know she is a good offshore boat, but there are patches of paint and gel coat that are coming off the...

Re: The Last Voyage of the 85 year-old Vollmer Twins

That is one I was not thinking, a Con between the Cult, Financier, and the Brothers. I like it! Conspiracy theory! Of course if it fails we all know who was to blame. He even says he is a right wing...

Re: The Last Voyage of the 85 year-old Vollmer Twins

Plus you would not want one so big with many places for that bride to hide in!

I found the article to be kind of sad. Might have been nice for them to be able to do this.

Re: What kind of hardware for a Bow pulpit?

Every time I look at a photo of that boat, I smile. I am not quite sure why but she just makes me happy. I have no interest in owning one, but they just look so perky and solid. (I know does not...

Re: Why are Nonsuch's so much?

Well I can think of no boat that gets discouraging reviews more than the Westsail 32, other than perhaps the McGreggor 26 with the 50 horse outboard. The term "Wet Snail" comes to mind. Most 30 year...

Re: An invitation - videos

Cool hope it becomes more of a thing than 3D did. I have seen lots of VR tours of homes and it can be a useful tool.

Re: Understanding the anchor ball

Day shapes are not used much, at least around me. In fact I have never seen one. I know there are those around here that say they use them, I just have not seen it.

Re: Why Not?

Just make sure she is in good shape and perhaps have a way to secure the swing keel down. I don't see why it woudl not be a pleasant trip, as long as you mind your weather windows. You can schedule a...

Re: Electric Propulsion, Anyone Using It?

To me it does seem that it should get more penetration. This is nothing new, they have been making electric powered boats for a long time. I know in the 1970s I used to use a resort's electric...

Re: New Interior Remodel Idea on my Venture 21

There is never going to be much more than a porta-potty below. I would clean up and refurbish what is their and call it a day and go sailing. Don't over load it with a lot if weight. The Venture is a...

Re: Brisk sail! And hair dye in the gelcoat…

So I guess you should advise her next time to use the proper colors and use red and green! That way you would not confuse any boats around you!

Re: Brisk sail! And hair dye in the gelcoat…

Dead Milkmen, awesome stuff, loved "Punk Rock Girl."

As to what gets it out I think you are likely going to need to use a bit of solvent and likely some abrasive to polish it off. I doubt it got...

Re: R.I. Boatyard

Might be helpful to say what size boat. Not a cheap area for anything to do with boats, and indoors is going to be expensive anywhere.

Re: Chasing down a persistent Porthole Leak

If you pull any hardware you might want to read this:

Re: Air conditioner issues

I would first suspect a corroded or improperly made connection. To me the best solution is to get the installer back there and rewire it.
