Re: Catalina or Hunter?

Not wanting to fan the flames...and while I see some flaws in my 42 year old Catalina 27 it still seems to float and sail just fine. It had some fairly new engineering that I am sure we can look at...

Re: Cut out centers of bulkheads: possible?

Just as an illustration- our Catalina 27 has 2 sets of bulkheads. One between the main cabin area and the head that secures the chainplates and is structural. The other between the v-berth and the...

Re: Bimini

I just got a cheap bimini from Amazon. $134 shipped. I saw the cheaper one like the OP ordered, but the I bought got better reviews, plus I wanted something other than blue and this one came with a...

Re: Cleaning gummed up piano hinges

I did a bit with WD40 and did not help much. I like the idea of the hand cleaner and have plenty of the other items if that does not do it.

They appear original and not rusty after 40+ years so I...

Re: Cleaning gummed up piano hinges

I have some of that spray on gunk remover- forgot about that. I'll see if it is strong enough, thanks.

Cleaning gummed up piano hinges

So I am refinishing interior parts and have a couple of hinges with lots of nasty oil and varnish build up where the PO oiled everything. I have the hinges off of the various parts now. One is a long...

Re: Purchasing Soon (hopefully)!

One positive thing is the name. At least it is Sea Dog and not Sea Dawg.

Re: Repowering a Pearson 31

Sticking with the A4 sounds like a good plan in your case. I needed to put a bit of work into mine when I bought it, luckily a carb rebuild got it going. I also added the electronic ignition just...

Re: Smallest boat you can live with

This was it for us as well, no fun stooping all the time, too old for that. Also an inboard. The Catalina 27 was about the smallest boat around here with both items.

Re: Air Head Composting Toilet

What is amazing to me is how many threads are here on Sailnet about this- yet it still just keeps going on and on. Seems like debating politics for you all.

Re: Anyone ever sold at a profit?

Two years ago I bought a Rhodes 19 for $200 at the end of the season. Had been sitting a couple of years in a field. Over the course of the winter I spent about $4000 on it and did everything myself....

Re: Moving up in size. Suggestions?

Some good examples for around that. They seem well made. The interior was great on a couple we looked at in Europe.

Re: Moving up in size. Suggestions?

Maybe it would help to know your budget?

A very good option for the money is an Elan. Your wife would love the interiors. A few good used examples on YachtWorld for good prices as well.

Re: $1500 Catalina 27

Still, any 20-30 year old boat (or more) may be sail away, but will still need enough work that you will get to know her better than you may want to.

Re: $1500 Catalina 27

Yeah, listen to Smack and others. I bought my C27 Tall Rig for 2K and it had new interior covers, everything intact, 5 headsails (in various condition), and I sailed that day. Put another $2K in it...

Re: Glassed-in keel/CB restoration?

I do not have experience with the glassed in part, but I did remove the CB on a smaller O'day.

One issue was getting it high enough to have clearance for the board, which on mine was done lifting...
