Re: Propane Stove Puzzle

Re cleaning the burner - please consider compressed air rather than a wire. The diameter is VERY critical and must be smooth, a wire can damage the surface.

Re: Melting Glaciers Lead to the Freak Phenomenon Of "Dead Water"

Ah! The things we see on the internet. Ah! The things people post on the internet.
I frequently sail on a bay that is salt water on the surface and fresh in the depths due to tidal action. My...

Re: Do you make guests wear PFDs?

We always wear them on the dock - lots of people fall in on the way back from the bar.
On board always when outside but not allowed to wear them inside, just keep them handy.

Re: Canadian Boats Selling in USA

Hadn't heard that one but I have been hearing of canadian boaters having "a hard time" visiting the US. Some say they will not go again. I don't plan on going again myself. Too bad.
We still...

Re: How to run aground properly

Loved the stories, I haven't run aground since last summer. (Boat is on the hard.)
On a serious note though, for fin keels aground and using an anchor to haul off I recommend setting it off the...

Re: Tanzer 27...New to Sailing

Welcome aboard! Tanzer 27
Used to be a Paceship 26, Tanzer bought the molds and added an outboard rudder (on most of them) and made them a nice 27. - the only good looking Tanzer under 30 ft IMHO....

Re: Buy a boat with "catalina smile"

Not unheard of in a lot of fin keel boats. That said I just sold a Catalina 27 ready to sail for less money - I would keep looking, or at least work on a better price.

Re: New member here

Welcome aboard. I agree with the "take the kids now" advice. I used to take my kids when they were still in diapers and they loved it. Have Fun!

Re: Percentage self-taught sailors?

Took some basic boating safety and coastal piloting courses but never had formal sail training. I still don't know how to sail like the racers but so far I have got there and back every time out. I...

Re: Any way to check keel bolts?

Just wondering, has anyone heard FIRST HAND - not a "they say" or "I know someone", who has had a keel fall away. I have seen some boats that have hit solid objects HARD and the keels are still...

Re: The Magical Sliding Sink of the Dufour 24

Chrysler 22's came with a galley that slid on a track back under quarter berth. Might find one of those somewhere.
(I know there is one around Lake Of The Woods - I took it out of my own boat in the...

Re: monocrystalline vs plycrystalline solar panels

I have used both mono and poly. I prefer mono because they are better if there is any shading and also seem better on overcast days.

Controllers - if the panel can supply enough amperage to be of...

Re: VHF mounting advice

Just a note re metal verses carbon fiber mast - carbon fiber is no better - it also is a conductor and will interfere with the radio. Now how much I am not sure but I wouldn't be concerned on my own...

Re: Inverter installation...

I agree with the "mount the inverter as close to the battery compartment as possible but not in it". Keep the leads as short and large as possible.
Even with everything done right you may find it...

Re: 12 volt refrigertation

I use a Dometic CF series Freezer/Cooler - never on shore power but have a 64 watt solar panel. (2 years old now)
Works for me, never had dead batteries or warm fridge upon returning to the boat....

Re: You know it's bad when....

All you ever need to know to fix everything!
