Re: Race to St Michaels

Good luck, I heard you picked up Marsha, she's races out of HHSA regularly and has been on my boat.

I'd be there if it wasn't for a leg injury sustained last weds night. Let us know how it goes.

Re: dnf because of county police boat?

This is nothing more than abuse of power. I'd fight this tooth and nail.
Color regs do apply and the LEOs either don't know them (bad enough) or feel that they're above the law (even worse).

Re: Rigging Math

+1 Tommy, shrouds should be sized to be 10-20% of breaking load or less to mitigate creep. I'd error on the 10% side. That being said, better materials at better prices are coming out every day. ...

Re: Solomons Island - shuttle?

C.D. cafe` Silvio? I think that's what it's called. I've heard good things, I also like going to the pier.

Re: Sun Awnings & Boom Tents

Made one for my boat on no wind deliveries. I used to bake for hours in the boat while motoring during the summer. Now the inside of the boat is cooler and there's massive amounts of shade in the...

Re: Solomons Island - shuttle?

No public trans that I know of, but there are taxis and car services. What marina are you at? You can also contact SMSA about a transient slip depending on your needs. Much closer to the tiki bar. ...

Re: Flaking the Main Sail

I have slugs on my race main and roll it. I just pull it out of the mast track. Does take a little more time to hoist, but is easier to drop and reef. On my boat anyway.

Re: handling gusts

Pinching is heading up so the tell tails on your sail are lifted and the luff goes soft, maybe even luffs a bit, but not the rest of the sail.

There seems to be some confusion from previous...

http://www.liros.com/fileadmin/user_upload/dateien/Service/Downloads/Spleissanleitungen/Rope_To_Wire_Splice.pdf

I'd do a wire to rope splice but for 2 ropes, I'd double the length of the buries. ...

Re: Mainsail Cover Mast Closure

I use plastic snap hooks on the bottom. And I made the sail cover so it wouldn't fit around the front of the mast. Nothing to protect up there, just need it on the sail. Way easier to make. Add a...

Re: Good place to anchor and have kids swim around in Cheasapeake Bay

That's a loaded question and probably deserves its own thread. I'm not the best at tactfully suggesting things, so I keep my nose out of it.

Re: Mind Your Hi-Tech Splices!!!

So you feel good about sending someone up the rig on a 12 year old halyard? Skied or not, it's 12 years old and high dynamic loads take their toll.

If you have a 42 footer, I wouldn't complain...

Re: Mind Your Hi-Tech Splices!!!

LMAO!

So how long do you expect a halyard to last in FL sun? Most racing boats change hi-tech halyards out every 4 years. I'd be pretty darn happy about a highly loaded string lasting for 10...

Re: FJ in need of blocks, newbie at helm. Help!

Some people don't want the extra weight of 3/8" ss pins. Nor the weight of 3/16" plate aluminum, which is why Harken, Ronstan, and many other manufacturers are running successful businesses.
