Re: In-mast (un-)furling problems

The rigging was tuned by the dealer and by a rigger to beneteau's specifications. Haven't touched it since. The sail has jammed from day one so I'm just hyper vigilant. When its time to replace...

Re: In-mast (un-)furling problems

The only way I've been able to solve this is to make sure I furl it properly. Then I unfurl at the dock and refurl it to make sure it doens't give me any...

Re: Florida anchoring restrictions survey

150 feet is too big a setback. It'll make places like Lake Sylvia dangerous...especially since there are spoil/shallow areas all over. This is a BAD policy and bad precedent.

Re: Funding retirement boat

Remember, debt (especially boat debt when classified as a home or second home deduction) is tax advantaged. So make sure you go (1-taxrate)*(boat loan rate) to calculate your effective boat loan...

Re: Funding retirement boat

my tactic would be to buy a big boat a few years before retirement. When you cast off, you'll only really have the boat note as a tax writeoff as your primary home will either be paid off or a...

Re: Blue Jacket 40

Just as an aside...$500k for a 40 foot boat is par for the course for a lot of the bluewater boats I looked into (Pacific Seacraft, Norstar 40, Valiant 42 when it was still offered).

Prices are...

Re: Charlotte Harbor/Punta Gorda area

Not specifically Charlotte Harbor, but almost out of the area is Cabbage Key. There's a restaurant on Cabbage Key that had dollar bills hanging from the ceiling all over. Its reportedly the place...

Re: Charlotte Harbor/Punta Gorda area

Its a great area to sail. A lot of people make Punta Gorda or Burnt Store area their home base and set out from there. Its skinny waters, so be careful and make sure your tow insurance is up to...

Re: Pros and cons for a double ender/Canoe Stern

They look beautiful. But beyond that, I'm not sure there are really any advantages of a canoe stern/double-ender. Recall reading posts from Bob Perry asserting as much.

A *huge* cone is the loss...

Yes, indeed it is. I suspect it as well. However when I took a nmea stream dump when my mac was directly connected to the E85001, it seemed to work ok (the trace was clean). So...I suspect the...

Re: Arduino / Raspberry Pi based instrumentation?

Pi is ARM chipset. I believe it *CAN* run OpenCPN, but you're going to have to modify it and recompile it. Even if it does run it, it'll be poor performance since the Pi is only a 700mhz chip (not...

Re: Arduino / Raspberry Pi based instrumentation?
