Saildrive Grinds into Gear

I just splashed my boat after 3 years on the hard.

I ran the engine on the hard using a hose and bucket directly to the water pump and everything was fine. Switching into forward/reverse went real...

The best part is methanol is...

No Return line on Tank

I'm in the process of re-powering from a Volvo MD11c to Yanmar 3GM30f. My fuel tank has no dedicated fuel return fitting, only a fill, air-vent, and fuel supply fitting.

I'm thinking maybe the old...

Re: Best sailing spots of the world?

I've only sailed Georgian Bay (2 days), BVI's (10 days) and the BC coast (2 years).

Although i do love the tropics and plan to spend this winter in them, there's just something about BC. There are...

Re: When Lightning Strikes

Indeed!

Since my old copper is basically shot, I'm thinking of using some of my old SS 1x19 rigging and tying all the chainplates together and leading them to the keel bolts.

In the end I'm not...

Re: When Lightning Strikes

What are the thoughts on lightning protection? I ripped most of mine out while doing a refit, mainly because it was in the way.

Now that I'm reassembling everything I'm wondering if its really...

Re: Kiwigrip

I just did my decks, I think I skimped too much with it, but I'm satisfied. It goes on real nice, but watch the temperatures outside, if its too hot it'll start to clump on the roller.

I do find...

Re: How are lifeline stanchons mounted?

I have some deck hardware that is mounted through aluminum plates that are sandwiched in the deckcore. The plates must have been drill and tapped because there are no nuts, just the bolts sticking...

Re: Looking for wood interior grab handles

I'll be replacing my grab handles with 'Sea Teak' products. My local chandlery caries them, and they also looks pretty nice.

Re: Yanmar mounted on Volvo Bed

Rebuilding a 1979 MD11, an engine they don't make parts for anymore? No offence but that's terrible advice. I'm not here to debate my decision to buy the Yanmar, I simply wondered if anyone else has...

I've already owned the boat for 5 years and I'm not sure where you read I hated Volvo's.. The 1978 MD11 needs a rebuild, so it was time to find...

Yanmar mounted on Volvo Bed

Re: Keel J bolt replacement in lead keel

I'm far from an expert, but with the exception of 1, they don't seem to be in that terrible of shape. They look great at the keel to hull joint.

Is you water in your bilge salt or fresh?

Re: Keel J bolt replacement in lead keel

Any chance of seeing a picture of these bolts close up?

This is the sort of project that many of us can learn from. I'm thinking of dropping my keel as well for inspection purposes.

I wish...
