Re: bluewater pocket cruiser

The problem with these types of threads is we all recommend what we know (cause we either own one or did). In that vein, I'll represent the Seawards. We have a Seaward 25, but the 26 RK's fit the...

Re: Composting Head

What worked for me (when I was a kid) was to put it in a paper bag, put it on the front porch, light it on fire and ring the door bell. (Sorry couldn't resist.)

Just cause it's a composter,...

Re: Grounded

That chart is for max current and fusing. The one you want to use is the calculator that Maine Sail posted earlier in the thread. That allows you to choose the correct gauge for the length of the...

Re: problem with pss and carbon.

Is it the newer style with a vent hose on it? If it is one of the older ones without the vent, it may have gotten air trapped inside. Try burping it by pushing back the spring loaded carbon part...

Re: Crewsaver Inflatable with Harness?

We saw these at the Annapolis show and liked them enough we ordered one for my wife. The one we ordered was the Crewfit 40 Pro auto with d-rings on it. Still waiting for shipment. It's a new model...

Re: PSS Shaft Seal

Check the PSS website. They have the specs there for the preload on your seal (probably 1/2"-3/4"). If it's loose, it can be tightened in the water. Anything more will require taking the boat out....

Re: Yanmar drivetrain question

Also, your new coupler should be reamed by a marine machine shop for a tap fit on the shaft. Then they put the shaft, with the coupler installed, onto a lathe, and face the transmission side of the...

Re: Polishing is not for an old man!

If the hull is chalky, and the buffing is seeming to go very slowly, do yourself a favor and wet sand it first. If you wet sand with 800, then step it up to something finer like 1000, then 1400 or...

Re: Funding retirement boat

Couldn't have said it better...some of the best advise in the thread. I recently (just this weekend) revisited our retirement plans for 5 years from now to see if we're on track, so this is relevant...

Re: 25lb anchor on 22' boat?

It's a wee bit big for a catalina 22, but if you can make it fit, you won't need to worry about dragging it. As mentioned by someone else, you can move it to the next boat if you upsize ever.

We...

Re: Marine head won't pump

Also sounds like a plugged line to me.

To quickly rule out a plugged vent, you can open the pumpout fitting and try to flush. If it works, the vent is probably plugged. Mine plugged up last in...

Re: Lets talk about dinghies y'all

Another portabote owner here. We bought an 8 footer earlier this year when portabote emailed me with a deal (I got on their mailing list when I emailed for a price list).

It stores folded...

Re: Where should we retire with our boat?

We're in the process of buying a place in Summerville, Sc. It's about a half hour from any of the marinas in Charleston and about 45 min to the beach. We won't be retiring for another 5 or 6 years,...

Re: boat for bahamas, but limited by bridge clearance and draft

The Seaward 25 and newer Seaward 26 are made over in Stuart, Fl. for exactly the type of cruising you want to do down there and should be short enough for the bridge. Not as large as some of the...

Re: Bicycling as sailing

Bring a spinnaker for this year's downwind sections :)

Watch those crashes. A pothole sent me to the pavement face first last October on a relatively fast downhill on one of my road bikes. Still...

Re: What size boom vang

Check Garhauer Marine. I don't have enough posts on the forum to post a link. The smallest one would probably work for you but call them to make sure.

I just bought a boom vang from them for our...

Re: Zebra Mussels - Lakes

Cynical is good. We need more cynical :)

The only thing that gives me hope is knowing some (many) things were worse when I was a kid. More and more of the toxic waste sites are getting cleaned...

Re: Zebra Mussels - Lakes

The decline in oysters is more likely a symptom, not a cause. Silt and excess nutrient runoff, and decline of wetlands are probably more at the root of the problem. I have a spring on my property,...

Re: Zebra Mussels - Lakes

Yes, it is beautiful here and we are squirrely sailors.

I've been in the area for 32 years. The zebra mussels have cleared up the water in Cayuga Lake. Not necesarily a good thing. It is...

Re: Recommend for trailer sailer with a real head?

Our Seaward 25 has an enclosed marine head with 10 gal storage tank. Most of the seaward 25 boats were set up this way, though some were ordered with porta potties or MSD. All have the head...

Re: Sailing Lake Champlain

I can't think of a part of that lake that isn't great for sailing. We towed our previous boat (Hunter 23.5) up for a week or more each of the last 3 years. It's a great lake with lots of protected...
