Re: Florida is at it again

I do think that those who live and pay taxes locally should have more of a say on local issues, yes. I don't see how that idea is destroying the middle class.

Re: Florida is at it again

I would submit that they pay a lot more taxes that go towards their own backyard than the average cruisers passing through does.

One thing that just occurred to me regarding the right to...

Re: Florida is at it again

Lol, spoken like a true Sailnetter.

Honestly I am not advocating for the evil rich people or even a setback. I just expressed that 200' doesn't seem all that unreasonable. Frankly speaking I...

Re: Florida is at it again

I get this viewpoint, and agree in a lot of ways with it. From a practical and pragmatic standpoint however, I also get that waterfront property has value and people pay a premium to invest for their...

Re: Florida is at it again

Good post Gary, and one better directed at the poster I was responding too (since I was also disagreeing with the notion of "but, it's always been...").

Hopefully that poster sees your post.

Re: Florida is at it again

Well, there have been a lot of responses so I'll try to discuss them all in general instead of a bunch of specific quote boxes.

The tax argument - It's hard to see how the argument can be made...

Re: Florida is at it again

Well, attacking me personally was to be expected I guess. I can see how my perspective as a non cruiser might offend, though I don't agree that it really should.

And this land belonged to the...

Re: Florida is at it again

200' doesn't seem at all unreasonable if you think about it, 200' is not very far. If you can't anchor, move along until you find a place where you're at least 200' from a persons home. I don't see...

Re: Florida is at it again

I did some minor reading on the public trust doctrine, what legal arguments to counter are Florida/Florida homeowners using against the public trust doctrine?

Re: Florida is at it again

I understand completely from a cruisers perspective why they'd want to fight rules like this. What I don't understand is why the same cruisers would undoubtedly be appalled and fight it with all...

Re: Is NSA a bad thing?

Not to derail the thread, but I have to ask since you also live in MD like I do, why did you say you have to have a safety check on your car every year? That's false. MD has a one time safety...

Re: Can anyone give me a valid reason to carry a firearm?

The only way to answer this is with data. Is there any on cruisers and the use of firearms in self defense? I have no idea if there is, but would be interested if there were.

From a real world...

re: Husband killed as he defends his wife from yacht robbers in St Lucia

While technically correct that this thread hasn't gone too anti gun (yet), the fact remains that this forum has a majority opinion against firearms and cruising, and a history of vilification of...

You turn off the entire forum instead of just avoiding the thread that offended you?

Re: Sailnet has new owners

There are lots of free forums and other online venues where the ad saturation reaches a point where people decide to no longer participate 'cause a ton of ads generally suck for the user experience....

Re: Sailnet has new owners

So I see that on many posts there is now an advertisement between posts. I also see ad space in the left hand column dedicated to selling ad space for $100 a month (space is limited!).

Should I...

Re: Back Issues of SAIL Magazine (70's-80's)...any use?

Whomever claims them: Can you look in the 82/83/84 issues for any Morgan ads, and see if you see any? I posted awhile back trying to track down an old Morgan ad that I was in as a kid, if you run...
