Re: 34 vs 37

I agree they are close enough in cost of ownership that cost of purchase and layout should drive your choice. I like the layout of the 34 (forecabin and salon) much better for a couple, but for sure...

Re: Location suggestions

I can only speak for Texas, but here you have:

- Kemah/Clear Lake - 10,000+ boats. Main place to shop in Texas
- Galveston - 30 minutes from Kemah, quite a few boats
- Port Aransas/Corpus...

Re: Boat sank at the dock

I would file a complain with your states insurance regulator. They may be able to provide valuable assistance. If nothing else if they get enough complaints they will shut down the broker or...

Re: Vetus Deck ventilator

We replaced ours with Nicro Day/Night Vents. They fit in that spot (sort of) but are cheap and leak badly. There is no way to prevent them from leaking in a heavy rain. They will be replaced soon for...

I am guessing you have interstate batteries. Interstate Batteries FAQ :: How do I charge certain deep cycle 6-volt and 12-volt batteries?...

Re: 50 Best Cities for Boating

Dumb idea for a list. Who boats in cities? 50 best lakes, or bodies of water would make more sense.

This seems like a list someone spent 10 minutes on to create a filler article.

Re: Bronze portlights suddenly oxidize on interior

My v-berth portlight dogs, and the hooks on the ceiling that they hang from, are very green. This only happens with the v-berth lights. The v-berth and head lights get really hard to open shortly...

Re: Guage for aft water tank

Do you have this bladder inside the forward tank? Are you happy with how it works? I would like to put a bladder inside that tank if possible to keep my mattress dry :)

Re: St. Thomas & St John worth visiting by boat when in the BVI?

Also Saint John is better visited sans boat in some ways, so can fly or ferry in there before or after a BVI charter and thus avoid some hassle with clearing in a boat.

Re: St. Thomas & St John worth visiting by boat when in the BVI?

I agree with Minnewaska. I really found Saint Thomas unpleasant. I loved Saint John.

Re: Boat Us conducts anchor tests

I was hoping it was me. I have always wanted to be a shadowy force serving the corporate hegemony.

Re: Sailboat, new vs used

I think the car comparison is a bad one. Comparing to a house is better. There are people who want a "new house", but most people don't really care. And older house will often take a ton of work to...

Re: Boat Us conducts anchor tests

To the extent that it shows anything, it seems to me that it shows the Mantus is the bast anchor for the bottom of the Chesapeake Bay.

Re: Spinlock Tether Recommendation

The Deckvest has a built in cutter, which is nice. Not sure I could pull it out and use it if being dragged through the water.

Re: Spinlock Tether Recommendation

Personally I would not want to cow-hitch myself to my tether. I would want a quick release buckle. I have a Spinlock Deckvest, but I do not care for their tethers. I like having a quick-release next...

Nothing but soft mud around here. Same in the Chesapeake as I understand it.

Re: Boat Us conducts anchor tests

Got to like these results if you make the Mantus. I would expect Fortress/Danforth to own a staight line pull test in mud, but if I was only looking at this chart, i would buy a Mantus.
