Hey SVTatia. Did you disconnect the brake when going upwind? I would slacken the line but the brake always jammed when tacking. Drove me crazy.

I has a Walder boom brake on my boat when I bought it. I took it off as it never seems to work correctly. Always jammed at the wrong time.
