Re: east coast provisioning stops

I have 7+ years into that idea. Perhaps you might download the free 30 day trial of PolarView (polarnavy.com) and see all the anchorages they list. It's approaching 10,000 separate anchorage...

Re: east coast provisioning stops

I could easily make the argument that the best provisioning stops are all the marinas with courtesy cars - especially when they really let you take them out for a few hours. Once you have full...

Re: east coast provisioning stops

What I'm saying is that you turn on the "grocery" filter (which does not exist today) and then only marinas with grocery capabilities show up. So you then zoom out and see the areas where there are...

The truth is the ultimate defense.

There is no current suit at all. But I do enjoy amazing you.

Re: east coast provisioning stops

May it please the court to accept the above testimony. Sadly, the remaining content of the posting proves just the opposite. I'll waive the obvious purgery request.

Your honor, has anyone...

Re: east coast provisioning stops

So it's all about me? Really? OK, I get it. You don't like me because I attacked back after the 50th time of being harassed by the same couple of people who continued to throw personal mud at me. ...

Re: east coast provisioning stops

Fantastic! Our paths will cross. We're only in Amsterdam on the eastern side of the canal - we're making a lot of stops. But we're going all the way to Lake Erie and there's really only one way...

Re: east coast provisioning stops

You have 170 points which really isn't much. You never earned enough for a hat which is about the minimum level of normal user contribution.

Through what type of woo-woo do you conclude...

Re: east coast provisioning stops

No, I get it. Try our site and use the Settings section in the Markers card to show only marinas that have pumpout. Then the only red markers displayed are the facilities that say they have...

Re: east coast provisioning stops

It would be quite simple to sort our data by content. We do it today for slip pricing, fuel pricing, and pumpout. On the website, you can have it show only marinas that have pumpout as an example....

Re: east coast provisioning stops

It'll never stop amazing me how the people who never contributed a single update, a single review, or a single piece of information to the ActiveCaptain community are the ones who stand up and then...

Re: Sailnet Changes

The problem is that it's not possible to separate my business life from my cruising life. I'm in a thread right now about paper charts. So when the discussion moves from navigation technology to...

Re: Sailnet Changes

I wish I would have seen this a week ago - another posting got my attention that lead me to this posting.

The reason that more vendors aren't involved is because there's a vendor-hostile attitude...

Re: charts

Without any question, it's the aids to navigation.

Except when it's not.

You see, it doesn't matter what's the most frequent. What matters is the change that you'll unknowingly come across. ...

With all due respect, I hear what you're saying. I've heard others say the exact same thing. Then I walk onto their boats to actually see their honored and revered paper charts. Yep, 3 - 5 years...

Re: charts

Actually, electronically the information is going to be much more current and have input from other boaters who might have experienced the hazard recently and provided a first hand report.

I tried...

Re: charts

Sure, you can cherry pick a single incident. But take the last "electronic" decade and I'd match it against any other decade where paper charts were used and bet that there were way more groundings,...

Re: charts

It's been a good discussion. I'm happy for the people who find nostalgia in using their paper charts - that's a very nice thing. I'm not sure it relates to the cruiser going thousands of miles but...

Re: charts

It requires having an honest discussion about the equipment and charts onboard. There are 2 reasons:

1. When I looked at the paper charts I used to carry, they were typically 3 years old. I...

Re: What are your favorite iPhone/iPad sailing apps?

Any phone that has a real GPS (all iPhones and most higher end phones) will work in the middle of the ocean and have no coastal requirement whatsoever. They will use cellular towers to decrease...

Re: Does anyone work on the Internet while sailing?

I routinely maintain cell coverage offshore between Charleston and Beaufort. That's an overnight for us. Going through Frying Pan Shoals Slue, we're about 12 nm out and maybe a little further from...

Re: Does anyone work on the Internet while sailing?

It's all quite easy along the US east coast. We have Internet access every day and run our entire online business from the boat.

I'm literally underway right now (on the Potomac River) making...

Re: Sailing from Little River Inlet, SC to Morehead City, NC

I try to go directly between Charleston and Beaufort, NC at least once a year. It's a wonderful time saver after having done the ICW a dozen times. Zoom out and look at the scallop of both coasts...
