Re: Cockpit tent

When we bought our 44cc it came with what looks to be a huge cockpit tent. Tried to fit it once, kinda got it in place. The big issue with it is that we also have a main sail cover/(oh damn - brain...

Re: Anyone keep an old tire aboard for tow-assist/fender/sea-anchor duty?

I don't carry tires, but I do carry some inner tubes. The one time I really could have used them I (being somewhat sloshed and considerably brain dead) forgot I had them.

Re: a cup of water

Could easily be that much condensation. Sounds like you haven't looked there in a long time.

Re: High anxiety-passage v. Coastal

What stresses me is having other folks on-board. Not that I don't like it, but I relax more alone.

Re: My newest project

Do I see twin back stays? I've read a lot of negative about them, yet we have them on our big boat.

Re: 2015 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

I've run Delaware City to the Rhode River in one day a couple of times.

One very long day. Up at 0 dark early and push the whole way. That's a delivery schedule, not fun.

But starting from...

Re: MD7 Diesel in motor oil ?? maybe MD 7

The fuel lift pump is in the back Port side of the motor. About level with the top. It is round.

It has a small lever underneath it. Reaching in from the front if you lay your hand over the...

Re: $3000/mo cruising budget

It sounds like you may like this site. It's a retirement calculator, but far more nuanced than any other I have seen. It takes a while to get the hang of it, but fool around with it a bit. ...

Re: 2015 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

Pretty much. Nothing hidden here.

We live on half time, when we are on the boat we run the Espar. When we are off the boat our neighbors run the Espar for us at about 45F (the damn controller...

Re: Diamond in the rough?

You laugh, but right at this moment its value is a bit higher than that of a certain Gunboat I can think of.

Re: So this happened here yesterday.

One is lead to believe the greater bit of fog was within the captains head.

I just hate boats like that. IIRC there is very little speed advantage to triple motors and almost none to four. Simply...

Re: 2015 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

For years I had a persistent leak in my boat, but only during winter on the hard!

One year it was so bad I had water almost up to my sole. I kept the boat at a remote place, so I could not check...

Re: 2015 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

Delaware City Marina today.

It was 1°F here the other night. Espar did its trick and kept the saloon at 70°F.

I'm an engineer, I work part time now, 24 hours a week. I'll retire in December and will try out doing a bit of work. My company has a "casual" status where you work by the hour with no benefits,...

Not the first time I've heard something similar.

Truck bed liner has also been mentioned, to me, after drinks, a few.

Re: Dumbest passage plan since the BOUNTY sailed straight into Sandy?

Just a couple of observations.

First it's interesting that the three recent rescues all involved father/son combinations. Rain maker, Sedona, and this. What odds?

But also, in my short...

Re: Dumbest passage plan since the BOUNTY sailed straight into Sandy?

I saw the thread title on CF and thought "Dumb!" I never views the thread.

I was in CG aviation, but before the time of the rescue swimmer.

It would be interesting to see how things changed.

Re: New Jersey sailing

I grew up in Manahawkin, Little Egg Harbor. Spent a good part of my youth mucking around out there.
