Re: How do you feel about catamarans?

I grew up sailing lasers, hobies, and prindles. I have lived aboard since 2000 and currently cruise full time on a 50 monohull.

I would love to get a cat if I didn't sail open ocean. The speed of...

I lived aboard for a few years in various Great Lakes ports. My advice would be to pull the boat right before the freeze and live on the hard. Bubblers and stuff are great but with a lengthy cold...

Re: Tell Me Your Best Sea Story.

I think it was 2003 or 04 I was living in St Thomas, USVI running the local tugboat company there and in St Croix. One of the few nights I had off during the year with no ships coming in I went out...

Tell Me Your Best Sea Story.

I love hearing people's sea stories. They are always entertaining and I usually take away some new wisdom from having heard them. Whether it's funny or frightening, let's hear your best.

Re: Don't "drive" your boat like it's a car!

Back in my 20's I had managed to purchase my first real boat. A Cherubini Hunter 25. I loved that boat. I had finally graduated from sinbads, snarks, force 5's and lasers.

Anyway I took some...

Re: Was the freighter messing with me, or did I mess up?

Ships on the Great Lakes follow prescribed routes called Lake Carrier Courses. They are printed on every chart and freighters rarely deviate from them.

Coming out of the locks on an upbound...

Re: Dangers of LED navigation lights

I use LED lights exclusively for a number of reasons. They are more efficient and more reliable. But mostly they also cut through haze more effectively. There is an unmistakable spookiness to LED...

Re: Why do skippers yell?

Captains who scream and yell are afraid. Call it stress if it makes you feel better.

If you must raise your voice to be heard over the wind that is one thing. But screaming at someone, although...
