Re: Sudden inability to sail upwind

Hahaha. I once had some type of electrical issue (can't recall specifically what it was) and spent ages trying to figure it out, all the while my wife kept telling me to turn stuff off and back on. ...

Re: What is proper dingy etiquette?

Since we're on the topic of borrowing...I just went down to the boat this weekend to discover that someone had permanently borrowed our hose and nozzle, again. Unfortunately, our marina has a lot of...

Re: Taking my ASA101 and 103 at once

The wife and I took 101 & 103 back-to-back and I don't see an issue with it. Yes, while it would be ideal to practice in between, the OP may have some difficulty in finding someone willing to let...

Re: Main sail can be difficult to raise

I second the suggestion of using McLube on the slugs or sail track...I seem to use it everywhere now. For the main, I've used it only on the slugs and it does help...to some extent.

Re: Are we doing it wrong?

Reading this thread brought up a question I've been pondering concerning harness vs. inflatable pfd w harness. Whenever I've single-handed in the past, I always wore a harness only - no pdf. ...

Re: Pearson 30 Bilge Pump Recommendations?

I know...and I agree with your sentiment...it is on the short list of things to do for the upcoming year. Glad to hear you are happy with your Ultra Pumpswitch, as I plan to change to one...

Re: Pearson 30 Bilge Pump Recommendations?

As bilge pump switches were mentioned above...a lot of people seem to like the Ultra Pump Switch Jr...it is pricy, but it appears to mount onto the bilge pump itself. I don't have any experience...

Re: Jeanneau or Catalina

Definately agree there...a search of yachtworld will show 4000+ for Beneteau and 2500+ for Jeanneau...with Catalina less than 1000...and likely almost all in the US.

Re: Jeanneau or Catalina

I own a Catalina 28 and have been very pleased with her...to the point where our next boat will be a Catalina as well. As mentioned above, there are excellent owner's forums/associations for each of...

Re: Trip S Florida to Galveston Bay

I've heard the same thing about a service that will heel a taller masted sailboat for passage under the bridge...although I'm not entirely sure that would be something I'd want to do...

Re: Where should we retire with our boat?

Seeing as the main reason for relocating is a warmer climate, that might be something the OP is willing to accept. Being in the FL panhandle, and having sailed in the St. Pete/Clearwater area, I...

Re: Blocked Raw Water Intake

The jellyfish was quite a messy situation...it seemed that every attempt to pull it out/loosen it only resulted in long stringy tentacles coming out...now I have even more reason to dislike them!

Re: Davits/dinghy/solar panels

I have a similar size boat...28' 6", with similar displacement, and I would be hesitant to add davits to that size boat. To me, the boat is just to small...but that's just my opinon. I feel that a...

Re: Dreamin' a bit

Lots of great advice here. For me, I would go with a small 20-22' foot sailboat, such as a Catalina 22 (or similar). Small enough to learn on, but would also have a cabin that would allow you to...
