Re: What do you have for a cannon?
That's part of the problem, the laws are passed and there are corner cases (such as this one) that could be caught up in them. These laws could be at a local, state, or federal level and you never...

Re: What do you have for a cannon?
You are right to think about it, people have been arrested for dumber things by the ATF.
You should consult with a lawyer, not your local PD.
For starters, many of the laws and...

Re: Where are the younger people?
The world has changed a lot in the past 10-15 years and even more so in the era since my grandparents, or even parents, were travelling. While the use of technology may seem like it takes the fun out...

Some of us use gasoline engines that can be damaged by long term use of ethanol. I found it informative and probably would not have noticed it had it been in the political forum cesspool

Re: Outboard on 1974 Pearson 10m?
Wow, that bad huh? I had no idea. We paid a guy $20/hr to fill, fair, and paint our decks along with doing our bottom. That's the cheapest boat labor I've seen, but I figured closer to $40 was...

Re: Outboard on 1974 Pearson 10m?
I think the amount of work and cost involved with an inboard will depend on what's currently in the boat. Are the thru hulls there? Prop shaft? Tank? Was it an A4 or a diesel? Are you willing to do...

Re: Cape Dory 25 vs Oday 25 maybe vs Cat 25
It is important to differentiate between the Cape Dory 25 and 25D. This comes up a lot, but they are two completely different boats.
The 25 was originally produced by Allied as the Greenwich 24,...

Ah ok, I was a little confused ;)
Call around, I found a YSM8 rebuilt for $1500 a few months ago and a 2GM20 for $4k rebuilt. If I had the guy's number, I'd give it to you, but I've since lost it....

Re: My Horror Story
We were recently quoted $13k to have a new Betamarine 14 put in our boat, $8k for the motor and $5k in labor if it was a simple job. We won't do it because I'm not sure I can justify the expense on...

How long were you at Ortega? We bought our boat there in August and spent about 2 months traveling up there to work on her. If you've been there a year, it's likely we met.
We made the same trip...

If you look hard, you can find someone that will. I know most big banks will not, but local credit unions will. In fact, I know that Space Coast Credit Union will regardless of age, minimum loan...

Re: Where are the younger people?
I'm 29 and my wife is 28, the biggest problem we have is getting enough time to go.
I get a lot of vacation compared to most other folks I know, but even still, it's hard to take time off to go...

I know :P I met you a few days ago.
I thought Harbortown was DIY? When I called them a few months ago, they said it was DIY. Maybe I was confused or misunderstood.

I do not believe there are any DIY yards in the Melbourne area and...

Re: Advice Asked - Don't want to Push it
If you take the ICW, expect to motor a lot, the channel in most areas between the St Johns and St Augustine gets really narrow. If you haven't seen it before, make sure to keep a keen eye out for the...

The benefit being, you can implement it in such a way that...

6hp outboard for a 25' boat?

Re: 6hp outboard for a 25' boat?
We use a 6hp to push our 8000lb boat and it works fine, even in chop and with wind. We rarely use more than 30% power.
Most people buy outboards too big.

You could always find a used motor as well. It doesn't have to be new.

Re: Is a marine survey really worth it for an inexpensive boat?
Yes, without a doubt.
We had 3 surveys done on 3 different boats, we passed on two of them because of the survey results. It was not only educational for me, it saved us a lot of money and from...

Re: Amuse me, sailing small boat offshore.
I just installed a ST2000 and it's exceeded my expectations. If you have any questions about it (e.g. wind vane), you can download the manual from Raymarine and read it, it's very well written and...

The 27 and 28 are great boats, but I much prefer the interior arrangement of the 25D.

It's actually a really good idea for folks that cast bullets and reload, I never would have thought of it.
