Re: 40' Bayfield Ketch

I single hand a Bayfield 29', and most of what everyone is saying rings pretty true. Pretty slow, traditional and beautiful lines (imo), pretty rock solid in heavy weather, and nice and comfortable...

Re: Music for sailing: what floats your boat?

When the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie came out, Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski teamed up to get an eclectic group of musicians, such as keith richards, tom waits, depp himself, patti smith,...

Found this on reddit. I enjoyed it so much I thought I'd share it. Made me smile many times.

Re: Learning to dock shorthanded

Sorry for my poor MS Paint diagram, but I have used this method docking singlehanded before and I find it works very well.

1) Boat A approaches the dock with a line tied just ahead of amidships...

Re: To High tech Nav or not

I am a somewhat low-tech sailor because the high tech stuff is expensive! Chartplotter, VHF, and depthsounder. When cruising, I have the paper charts below, and plot my course accordingly, using the...

Is it too early to commission my engine for the season?

My boat goes into the water on April 27 and I was going to go down and de-winterize the engine today, is too early, are there any negatives to it sitting around or no?

Re: Icebox with no drain hole in the bottom??

My icebox also has no drain. I put my ice in one of those small plastic "trash cans", but any little bucket would do . I find it doesn't take up much room, and it makes dumping the ice out much...

Re: I am 26, and seriously considering moving aboard with my girlfriend. Any advice?

Man, sailnet is great! Thanks for all the responses.

So, I've been researching for the past 2 days and have updated my plan. I'm going to spend less, and buy older. As of now I'm looking at two...

Re: I am 26, and seriously considering moving aboard with my girlfriend. Any advice?

Sorry, let me add a little more. Eventually, yes we would like a house, but we'd like to take 6 or 7 years and liveaboard and cruise the lakes. I am fairly handy and would do many repairs on my own....

Re: I am 26, and seriously considering moving aboard with my girlfriend. Any advice?

At our club right now there are several liveaboards year round. They use water bubblers and shrink wrap their decks. I believe most of them use electric heaters powered by the shore. I will...

I am 26, and seriously considering moving aboard with my girlfriend. Any advice?

We cannot afford a house right now, but would like to spend around 100,000 on a comfortable sailboat to live on Lake Ontario. Am currently looking at Beneteau's between 36' and 40'. Does not need to...

Re: Sewing in new battens: Asking for some advice!

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll take another look at the existing battens and pockets and see if it is worth the effort. As of now, all the sail has is two half battens, one near the top and one...

Sewing in new battens: Asking for some advice!

I have a Bayfield 29' and the mainsail has seen some hard times. As of now it is missing it's 2nd and 3rd battens, and the batten pockets have ripped and been torn to shreds. I'm still fairly new to...

The end of my first season.

As haul out approaches I was getting sentimental and decided to put together a video of clips from my first season of sailing. If you sail on Lake Ontario you should recognize the sights! I sail a...
