Re: Cats on Board

Our cat probably enjoys the boat more than we do. Here is a pic of her navigating during our sail last night.

Re: Resealing and rebedding cabin windows/ports with Butyl tape

Butyl is used by many auto manufacturers to seal windshields. It is laid down, the windshield is placed on top then a secondary seal typically made of rubber and metal is fastened into place using...

Re: Bedding Deck Hardware With Butyl Tape

Yeah, I have bought it from rv supply stores and mobile home parts manufacturers. Typically these stores have 4 to 5 different kinds of grey butyl tape on their shelves. Each good for different...

Re: My Boat was Hit Bad

Hey, sorry to hear about your boat. Hopefully your dog was not on board when this happened?

That is a big fear of mine, something happening while we are away and our dog and cat's safety is out...

Re: Resealing and rebedding cabin windows/ports with Butyl tape

I'm sure sikaflex works great but Im not a fan because its still a curing sealant. They are messy to work with, once the seal is broken it has to be redone, and its expensive.

I bought the butyl...

Resealing and rebedding cabin windows/ports with Butyl tape

I used 3m marine silicone sealant to seal the first window I redid and it worked alright. After seeing how fragile the silicone is once its cured I was worried that one big wave or flex in the hull...

Re: Tropical storm Debby doing damage in St Petersburg (warning Boat carnage pics)

The boat was refloated this afternoon in 2-4 foot seas and 55mph gusts in the marina basin. Totally destroyed, but from what I understand it was in rough shape to begin with. I do feel bad for the...

Re: Tropical storm Debby doing damage in St Petersburg (warning Boat carnage pics)

Not really, We received 12 inches of rain in 24 hours, it filled the cockpit, which because the cockpit drains were clogged the water just dumped into the cabin.

The back of the boat has a cutout...

Re: Tropical storm Debby doing damage in St Petersburg (warning Boat carnage pics)

Pictures don't really do it justice. It was pretty rough. Like I said the boat was neglected. There was no shore power hooked up so Im guessing no bilge pump functioning. We have gotten nearly a...

I would say that the tough economy is actually good for getting younger people into sailing.

When my wife and I were looking for boats we had it narrowed down to about four or five that we were...

Re: Towing a Jon Boat + Security once landed?

I don't have any experience towing a johnboat but have been in one that was swamped by a small boat wake and it sank immediately, like straight down to the bottom sank. In any kind of rough seas I...
