I have sold lower end boats in the past and made money in most cases, with them selling quick. I have my sailboat up now, and it's only been a couple weeks but my fingers are crossed it doesn't sit...

Crew Availble - NJ DE and Upper Chesapeake

I am currently available to crew, whether it be just a pleasure trip, a mate while transporting, I want to get out on the water and make a couple bucks.

I have a ton of experience and have owned...

Re: Annapolis!! Anyone want to take a look at my issue?

Probably past the point of being useful since you already soaked with oil, but I always use transmission fluid for that. There are a lot of detergents in the trans fluid and it works a little bit...

Re: Battery mystery. Lost all power. Why?

I am going to take a guess that one of the positive wires, where there are two coming off one post, goes straight to the motor. If that is the case I would rewire that to the switch so that you can...

Re: Should I go?

Those conditions sounds pretty good, unless you have to beat in to them, then I would stay in and have some rum. Just curious what your final decision is.

Re: Another wannabe liveaboard....

Do it now, I spent the last year on a 30 foot sailboat, and it was comfortable, I loved it. The trawler idea isn't bad for room, and comfort. I have been back on land since January, and I am...

Re: Battery mystery. Lost all power. Why?

Make sure your battery cables are tight. All it takes is for one to be a little loose, you'd be surprised.

edit: Bad battery switch is the other option, but it really sounds as simply as one of...

Re: Thoughts on SPOT and inReach?

I have used the basic spot and have no complaints about it. It keeps everyone up to date on where I am when sailing, I bought it for my trip from Chesapeake Bay to the Keys. I can send the all is...

Re: Check this scorched jib sheet!

I use bowline knots to attach all my sheets, halyards too... this is mainly because I am cheap, but why put one more piece in to the puzzle. You are most likely attaching your line to the shackle...

Re: anchor tips to get it to catch?

Another thing that people don't think about in regards to scope and with crowded anchorages, anchor near other boats that are similar to yours. Some anchorages are going to be tight no matter what...

Re: anchor tips to get it to catch?

Where are you guys heading in the Chesapeake? The bottom conditions in the Chesapeake are quite muddy and actually very conducive to a Danforth, I don't know that I would sleep well on only 8 pounds...

Re: Internet Access

My phone acted as a wifi hotspot and I had full 4g a lot of the time. I would use it with the big boy data plan, it is unlimited but they throttle me after like 8 gigs and I had no problem streaming...

Re: anchor tips to get it to catch?

"You know these storms boss, they come on ya fast, they leave ya fast"

IMHO - I would rather be ready for a big blow whether I know it's coming or not. If pulling hard with the engine pulls the...

Re: anchor tips to get it to catch?

Ahhh, re-read what I wrote. I back down on it hard, then leave the boat in neutral for 15 minutes while I clean up, to give it time to swing around a bit. Then back down on it hard again. Also not...

Re: anchor tips to get it to catch?

10 feet of water, I am putting out at least 75 ft.

+1 on SVAuspicious, I ramp all the way up to full bore in reverse, because it is true that your engine cannot match the force of the wind. ...

Re: Mooring Line

+1 for good chafe gear. I used pieces of old fire hose, I was living on a mooring off key west for a year, very very minimal wear. Don't forget to check that you aren't getting your lines caught...

Re: Icw

I have to agree with what has been said so far. A couple things to add:

1. A good plan that I adopted on my boat for shallow water is to set the alarm, a foot or two above where you are aground. ...

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

I have a ton, and I am going through my phone right now looking at all the pictures. This one is kind of ugly, but it was less than a dollar. I had this silverware holder on the boat in a cabinet...

In my experience if you are anchoring every night, it is usually easy enough like has been said just to row to shore, I have never long distance cruised with the dogs, they only get to do weekend...
