Re: Air conditioner issues

Capacitors are not a common failure, particularly on a newer unit. If it were the start or run capacitor the compressor would probably be very hot, and off on internal thermal protection. Is it hot? ...

Re: New Guy

It looks like that yacht club has a fairly active racing scene. Another option is to go down to the club on a race day and see if you can get a ride. Odds are you will find someone that could use the...

Re: Harken Radial or Lewmar Evo ST winches

I have no personal experience with the new Harken winches, but have raced on boats with various generations of both Lewmar and Harken, and found no real difference. When I was shopping new primaries...

Re: Adler Barbour Cold Machine troubleshooting

Wow! Talk about dredging up old threads!

There is a product out there that some guys use called "Easy Seal". Some guys swear by it. I prefer to actually find and repair the leak, but I have used...

Re: Tell me why this was stupid

Well. at least you admit that what you have done is stupid! That's half the battle!

Seriously though, you don't want to put any money into the engine? So how much money do you think you are going...

Re: Furling line death trap

Most of the time there is no reason to have the furling line tight at the dock. If you furl enough so the sheets wrap around the headstay the sail is not going to come unfurled in normal conditions....

Re: AC recharging

Denise is right, if it is a small refrigeration system with a Danfoss compressor it is likely a fairly "critical charge" system. Too much or too little refrigerant will drastically affect performance...

Re: Light-light air!!! Exciting stuff?

I have often found that light air racing can be more exhausting than a breezy race. Mentally it takes far more concentration, and physically you can find yourself sitting in much less comfortable...

Re: Marine AC fan upgrade?

Is it your condenser or your evaporator that is freezing up?

Evaporator freeze up may be a symptom of low on refrigerant but not always. When a system is low on refrigerant the evaporator pressure...

Re: Two headsail Halyards?

It sounds like they are both Genoa Halyard a. You probably also have a twin groove foil on your forestay if it is an ex race boat. Multiple halyards on race boats is common on older masthead race...

Re: Mermaid A/C Issue

Don't ask me! We don't have that problem around here. The only time we have to backflush condensers is when the chemical treatment guys don't do their job on heat pump loops. I don't do domestic...

Re: Jib catches while tacking

Fair enough but you have to admit baggywrinkles and ratlines are going to look pretty goofy on an Oday 27, which is , after all, the boat the op owns. If the op would provide information and pics I...

Re: Mermaid A/C Issue

That is probably what it was; insufficient water flow is by far the #1 cause of high pressure safety trips, as that is it's primary function...to protect the system in the event of lost flow.

If...

Re: Mermaid A/C Issue

The other problem that show up as companies transition to R410a is that it is not nearly as forgiving of poor piping practices. With the old refrigerants they could get away with brazing pipes...
