Re: Donating my Cal 29 to Charity

Thanks - I'm actually taking the CPA exam in two weeks so this may come in handy. Individual taxation is heavily tested.

Re: Donating my Cal 29 to Charity

If I got nothing for this boat, buying it was still one of the best purchases we've ever made and the memories and the experiences that we've had on her far outweigh what we paid. I'm not really...

Re: Donating my Cal 29 to Charity

Every boat has an intrinsic value that is not tied to changes in the market. I think $8K is a good value when you consider what they're getting. Problem is most people are strapped for cash. One guy...

Donating my Cal 29 to Charity

I am so sick of lowballers. If I don't sell her in a week, I think I will donate her to charity.

We are moving to Las Vegas from the Puget Sound.

Does anyone have any experience with donating...

Need advice on planning a cruise

My wife and I are liveaboards and would like to take a long cruise in a couple of years, with our two kids, perhaps from the Bahamas back to Seattle. Can you recommend a resource for planning a...

Re: Jeanneau 42 vs. Catalina 42

Yes, I might be paranoid, however a quick search of my posts will quickly reveal that a-we are new saliors and b-we have small kids with us. Can you please give an example of a question he could ask...

Re: Jeanneau 42 vs. Catalina 42

I don't think so. If you have a boat question, ask it, might even start your own thread. But I don't talk to strangers from the Internet.

Yes - the link was to the one we looked at. To my knowledge it still has a for sale sign on it.

Re: Dehumidifier in wet/rain PNW?

I just want to clarify, when I (the original poster) mentioned a 'small dehumidifier' I am talking about something like this: Amazon.com: Eva-dry Electric Petite Dehumidifier: Health & Personal...

Re: Dehumidifier in wet/rain PNW?

We are living aboard a 29 ft with 4 people full time ( two are small kids) we have resorted to running a large Sears brand pretty much 24/7. When we go out, then they are turned off because of no...

Re: Jeanneau 42 vs. Catalina 42

We've hit a financing roadblock! Our bank only finances boats up to 15 years old. Our other lender wants 30 - 35% down because we're liveaboards. Zoiks!

Fortunately, the seller is being patient...

Re: Jeanneau 42 vs. Catalina 42

We placed an offer on the Catalina and the owner accepted. It's in better overall shape, even for an older boat, and it just has a nicer feel inside.... more homey. The engine has about 3300 hrs...

Jeanneau 42 vs. Catalina 42

We're looking at a 1999 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 42 (Broker) and a 1990 Catalina 42 (Craigslist). Both are asking $89K. We currently live aboard a Cal 29. We like the tri-cabin layout of the Jeanneau and...

Re: Sailing with children

At those ages, I wouldn't plan to do more then 3-4 hours of sailing per day while they are awake and alert if you want them to enjoy it, and to have something fun to do daily, like going ashore and...

It depends what state you are talking about. The state that we were from, their is no state income tax, I have never in my life filed anything with my state as far as taxes are concerned. Living in...

Live Aboard Kid Christmas Gifts?

I was just wondering what kinds of toys other live aboard families either have, or are thinking about getting for the kiddos this season.

This is our first Christmas aboard, and we have been...

Re: Domicile or Residence...

When we lived in a foreign country, we kept the state where we had lived in previously. It is a state without state income tax. It was a slightly different situation, but I just used my parents...

Re: Dehumidifier in wet/rain PNW?

So the numbers in the morning are almost 1 cup or water in the machine, about 87% humidity, which the fact that it went down, not staying the same or up, gives me hope.

Re: Dehumidifier in wet/rain PNW?

Just thought I would give an update - we went and purchased the EvaDry 2200 4 pint. The humidity conditions had steadily worsened the few days we at the boat before it arrived. So when I plugged it...

Re: Dehumidifier in wet/rain PNW?

Where are you located that you pull out more then that overnight? Are you living on it?

I try to have low expectations all the time - makes one happier in general I think :-)

Re: Dehumidifier in wet/rain PNW?

Yikes, we currently have the opposite problem, can't get hatches/doors to shut because the wood is too swollen.

We have decided to try out the 4 pt dehumidifier and have it on order, couldn't find...
