Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

That's a great idea.
You could probably make a good deal on an older lightweight bike to save some pounds.

Re: Head intake hose problem

What's a 13/16 nipple? Is it a barb fitting?

Is it thick walled enough that you can grind/sand it down?

What hose have you found that fits on the "nipple"?

Re: More Ventilation in Aft Cabin --Center Cockpit with Dodger

Make sure that your companionway is closed so that the only place air from forward can exit is through aft cabins. As long as you have big enough openings to not impede the air.
I can't think this...

Re: Underwater Flex-O-Fold Prop Installation

Doing this underwater would I assume require the bolts precoated with locktite. My props were installed at commissioning before launch, but even so, one of these precoated bolts worked loose...

Re: 8 plait dock lines

That is what came on our boat.

It did fine, but for a given diameter, I believe it is not as strong. It's not as compact, so not as much fiber there, per unit area.

Re: Impeller for 3GM30F

That is to say, impellers in the raw water pumps.

Re: Impeller for 3GM30F

I believe there is a difference between impellers for pumps on "European" and on "Japanese" motors.

Re: Keel encased sail drive

I think what you are proposing would be to immobilize the saildrive "lower unit". Which would also tend to immobilize the engine.

My engine(s) and sail drive(s) move around a good bit, together....

Re: Keel encased sail drive

I deal with the advantages and disadvantages of a SD, and am fine with them.

But mine are behind bulkheads that are virtually watertight, and well above the waterline, on an un-ballasted...

Re: Skipjack 14 foot Sailboat - Need Advice on How to Rig

The centerboard was indeed made of aluminum. I went to school with the guy that owned Skipjack #1.
It was originally made by Mobjack Manufacturing near Gloucester VA, which was acquired by Newport...

Re: Clutches, jammers, and hi-tech lines

The Warpspeed is about 7/16.

Re: Clutches, jammers, and hi-tech lines

We got some good deals on Warpspeed some years ago, and have used it for several lines: main halyard, jib furling line, topping lift/spare main halyard, and spinnaker halyard (IIRC). I really like...

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

Looks like the pump couldn't fit any lower than the height of the platform.

Re: Foot switches for an Anchor Windlass

I have foot switches, although we normally use hand pressure because of the location. And I have had a failure with at least one of the two switches. When it happens, it's never a good time.

I...

Re: clevis pin, 18-8 or 316?

Since we are talking about clevis pins, I'd like to ask if a common ss bolt would be suitable used as a clevis pin? Of course I mean using the unthreaded of the bolt, only.

The clevis pin that...

Re: Datamarine S-200DL Deph Sounder replacement

I'm quite confident that the datamarine hole is a good bit bigger than for an ST60. Maybe not an inch, but not far from it.
Had the Datamarine on previous boat, and ST60 now.

Re: Opening Up The Lazarette: Pictures of your new access?

Makes sense.

I know that with a lot of effort you could end up with a more integrated look doing it from scratch, but using a stock hatch would likely be more water tight.

Many more than these...

Re: Trust me! I'm an engineer!

I watched a cable crane on a barge that had been driving pilings on one side of the river near me, cross to the other side.

They got tired of waiting for a tug to push them across, so they set...

Re: Throttle won't hold position!

That looks like what I have.
I figure the idea is that the spring in/on the engine returns the engine to an idle should the throttle cable break. The friction or restriction needs to be close to the...

Re: So where the heck do you shower???

Even though there isn't likely (on that size boat) a separate "shower", most have a shower sprayer used inside the head. Makes it wet in there, but helps keeps it clean.

Re: Vented loop vent confusion/waste system sanity check

I think if the top of the bowl is less than than 6 inches (may be more than that) above the waterline --when heeled, if applicable-- you need vented loops on intake and discharge to the sea.

I...
