Re: Drogues and Sea Anchors

This is exactly the kind of information that I was looking for.

I was recently gifted a Delta Drogue and was reading up on how to deploy it and that's where all the questions began percolating.

Re: Anyone ever rent a cabin?

Assuming you mean renting out part of your cabin space, I've witnessed it firsthand at the marina I lived at.

It's called "sub-letting" and unless it's allowed in your written marina contract, you...

re: Anyone ever rent out a cabin on their boat?

Allow me to explain-

There are a lot of people trying to play "beat the rent" by living on derelict boats in marinas, on mooring balls and at anchor.

These people are not interested in sailing...

Re: Drogues and Sea Anchors

There are people on this forum have extensive blue-water sailing experience, that I have met PERSONALLY, that I do not consider hacks.

Auspicious (Dave)
Jackdale (Ok, haven't met him personally)...

Drogues and Sea Anchors

This is a dumb question that I really should know the answer to by now, but...

A drogue (such as a delta drogue by Para-Tech) is towed from the stern, while running. The drogue slows the boat to a...

Re: Advice From Young Punks

I use a Polaroid XS100 action cam.

It's waterproof, doesn't need a "box" for protection. It's cylindrical in shape. It came with all the brackets, straps, bits and bobs you could need to mount it...

Re: Chain size

pdq-

2400lbs SWL for a 40' monohull of what displacement? Designs vary wildly and there are some pretty light and pretty heavy boats out there.

Can you please post a link to that AYBC...

Re: The New Generation

You were in the military? You must have been an officer, because there appears to be a rigid rod jammed up your -ss that is interfering with your sense of humor.

Did you notice the smiley/winkey...

Re: The New Generation

I know where you're coming from now. I based my statement on that.

I already confessed that I shouldn't have assumed that you couldn't relate to him. I apologize. You 1%'ers really are...

Re: The New Generation

Ok, I shouldn't assume who you can "relate" to. No, I don't think you were born with a 54 foot boat, but after awhile, it's easy to forget where you came from.

I agree with you that he wasted a...

Re: The New Generation

Chrisncate- That was him/them.

Yes, they did a beautiful job on the boat.

Minne- You sail aboard a 54 foot boat. I think you have difficult relating to people who cram themselves into much...

Re: The New Generation

I'm drawing a blank on the name (not enough veggies in my diet), but remember the controversial guy who rehab'd the Alberg 30 with his GF/wife, and then sold it?

I always thought it was a shame...

Re: Florida is at it again

I'm fuzzy on the issue of state vs. federal "navigable waterway".
I thought that if a waterway was designated as "navigable", that it fell under federal jurisdiction. (Army Corps of Engineers and...

Re: Single handed anchoring questions

It's Pearson-standard issue non-skid. No idea what they used at the factory.

Re: Single handed anchoring questions

I don't think I could. You know, if those U-bolts could be rotated 90 degrees, that bracket could be attached to a single, vertical support on the pulpit. Unfortunately, that's not possible on the...

Re: Single handed anchoring questions

Ok, checked out the link. That's a very nice bracket, but it simply won't work on my boat. My aft and fwd pulpits only have a single horizontal rail.

It's a shame. Such a bracket would have...

Re: Single handed anchoring questions

Pearson 30.

There's really not much to take a photo of. There's a bow pulpit and a white, rubber cowl vent over the hawsepipe, offset to starboard. Single, large cleat in the center.

Re: Single handed anchoring questions

I have a technique, but it's not smooth and it's not efficient and I admit that. I'm trying to figure out something better. Just to set the scene:

1. I don't have or need a windlass. It's a 30...

Re: sailed once with my uncle

Hey, don't go bringing "facts" into this. You're devolving the thread into a mockery. Provide some "useful information" like how to clean mold from the bulkheads.

Re: sailed once with my uncle

Not to mention, a waste of OUR time.

There are too many variables to enumerate, that could skew our estimates of what it would cost to restore that vessel. It's impossible to give you an accurate...

Ships are meant to have one...

Re: Manson Supreme

Jon,

Have you anchored with your Manson in rocks yet? Did you use the slot?
How did the anchor do?
