Re: Bilge system in a small boat

Are you adding manual auto or both. The proper place for the bilge discharge is in the cockpit right about where your feet go so when it goes off you know its going off :) Why do you need a mounted...

Re: Anchoring without chain

Just my 2 cents, I have been using a chainless stern anchor for some 20 odd years and never had it fail.

Re: Seattle / San Juan Island Boatyard

I can't help you with that one but do your research, I would guess 20K for a proper paint job and I have seen many botched ones. Love the Flicka.

Re: Genny sleeve

I guess my question is don't you still have to go out on the sprite to raise the sock? Isn't raising the sock more work than generally stuffing a sail into a bag? It seems like more work and yet...

Re: Actual costs of cruising/keeping a boat (dollars and cents)

I have a feeling that this will be a really good thread. Having made a living in the financial sector for many years I love stuff like this but also have to say that I have not once considered money...

As long as its fun

As a professional writer I read a lot and am more often than not let down. I just got my hands on As long as its fun by Herb McCormick and have to say it just may be the best written book of the...

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

I've had the opportunity to meet Mark and go aboard and let me tell you the pictures don't do her justice, she is a prime example of the word yacht. She is impossibly perfect :)

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

Brilliant I'm putting it on my list. For all the people who are wondering how a person might become debt free and actually save enough to pay cash for a boat and sail off, here is a excellent read...

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

I agree with everything that you said but that still doesn't change the fact that ACA is a stolen freedom or the fact that I will never take part in it or the fact that is will financially destroy...

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

I absolutely agree with you and that's why I refuse Obama care, it will be the down fall of our financial system. Everyone will suffer from this criminal care system.

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

There are two sides to every coin. I could get a job, spend my waking hours making my boss wealthy and spend my evenings reading sailnet living vicariously through others. OR I could take my little...

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

I guess the simple answer is that I prefer not to work anymore than I have to. I've done the whole work, mortgage, debt thing,no thank you. I have an aging dog who is the center of my world so I...

Voyaging on $500 per month

I've been reading through cruising budgets here and elsewhere and am shocked by how much money people are spending on their cruising budgets. I'm setting off again in a few months with a reasonably...

A different way around

We all have different ways of making our sailing dreams come true. As for me the economy stole my job crushed my investments and left me broken and battered. I could have chosen to give up or start...

Re: Thinking of Losing My Inboard

I am going to have to say plus one for going engine-less. If you have an excellent boat and some patience its well worth the rewards. I live and sail at 48 degrees, we have fog, heavy currents lots...

Re: Thinking of Losing My Inboard

I sailed engine-less on my 7400 lb boat for several years before adding a 6hp outboard. I don't have any complaints about the outboard other than my 1 gallon stinky gas can but took it off today. I...

Re: Replacing Inboard with Outboard

My 22' sailboat displaces 7400 lbs, I sail in the San Juan's where we seem to get 30 plus knots more often than not lots of current. I have a 6 hp outboard and love it, if there is wind you can sail...

Re: Install anchor chain markers

I use 1/4" colered nylon three strand through the links lengthwise. 12" strands are easy to see, it will go through the windlass fine and lasts a very long time :)
