Re: Suggestions for my next boat

Since you are leaning toward J's anyway, I would recommend the 34c, 32, or even the 37. I am a bit biased having owned a 34c and both versions of the 37. 34's are hard to find as they only built 36....

Re: Hull Cleaning - "the mustache"

Iron out. Get it at any home improvement store. Comes in powder form. Mix with water and wipe it on with a sponge then rinse. I have had good luck with it.

Re: Who dives on their own Boat?

I clean more often when all I spend is my effort rather than writing a check. Sorta fun too!

Re: Who dives on their own Boat?

I agree with all the tips about safety and getting properly trained. Concerning gear, my experience has been electric hookah with a full face mask is the hot ticket for bottom cleaning. No tank...

Re: Painting a boat trailer

I like that plan. I have everything apart that I can and am fixing bent and broken stuff. Then sandblast and paint. Thanks for the feedback!

Re: Painting a boat trailer

So far it looks like rustoleum. I am stripping down all the rusted areas to the bare metal and sanding the rest. Planning to roll on the paint instead of spraying. Thanks for the feedback!

Painting a boat trailer

What paint would you recommend for a trailer? It will be used to ramp launch a j22 in fresh water. I am planning on rolling it on after prep. Thanks to all!

Re: Cleaning Hull in the water

I bought a 12 volt unit from jsi. It works great and you can be down for a couple of hours without running your batteries down. I did buy a full face mask which makes it all much easier. IST makes...

Try worldpanel.com. They make a Formica type material in 4 x 8 sheets. Not cheap but I have used it with success.

Follow Mainsails advice step for step and you will be surprised with what you can do with old gel coat. If you do decide to spray gelcoat, buy a gun unless you are only doing small touch up areas. I...

[QUOTE=SloopJonB;904765]Getting a pro in to shoot the topcoat likely costs less than getting a gun that can handle the gelcoat and the waste inherent in an amateur attempt - how much does even a...

Re: Why paint instead of gelcoat?

The duratec is a reactive thinner according to their information. It mixes 1:1 with gelcoat, then with 2% mekp. If you still need to thin, use styrene thinner, not acetone. I shot it with a cheap...

painting aluminum spars with Perfection

I now have a J/22 that needs the spars refinished. I am considering Interlux Perfection. Any advice from the group? What primer? I will roll and tip the paint. Thanks for the help!
