Chicks +1

As earlier mentioned , high top Chucks. Most versatile shoe on the market. Canvas breathes and dries. I like black. I embarrass my family, but function over form.

There are a lot of "big" boats in the 24-27 foot range. My Ericson 25+, for example, full enclosed head. Standing room in cabin for 6' 2". So, you don't have to have a port a potty. Lot of good...

On that last day, I turned key in cockpit. If I recall it sounded like it was turning over, but not firing. Don't have compression wrench. Just seems odd I could turn the flywheel in November out...

MD5B Volvo/Penta- Why won't flywheel turn by hand?

I just got back from my boat (E-25+). Trying to get it ready to go back in in a few weeks. Last season on my last trip, my exhaust elbow blew a hole in it, which I've had welded over the winter....

Re: Volvo Penta MD5 Exhaust Pipe Elbow

I left the elbow with a welder over the winter and just got it back. Looks good. They ground it out and welded a piece of stainless in, maybe 5 inches by two inches. Should do the trick. Cost me...

Re: Hello from Boston, MA

Welcome.

Is that the "aboard Madrigal" boat? I used to follow that blog and then it just abruptly ended with no explanation on fate of the boat. In any event, congratulations.

Re: Newport/Martha's Vineyard/Nantucket--your feedbacked needed!

You're getting the right info here. If you are limited on time, but really want to get to MV, I agree that you sail direct to Menemsha from Newport, come right up Vineyard Sound. You can anchor or...

Re: DIY Boat Yard Cape Cod?

Hi,
If you end up down in New Bedford/Fairhaven area, you can go indoors at Bayside, Niemiec, and maybe Fairhaven Ship Yard (but I'm not sure). Two things with going inside at places like these...

Re: Bose 151 Speakers... Opinions

A little off topic. I like music and I like good sound. I was about to rig a wired sound system into my boat and paused and decided to take a reluctant step into the 21st century. I got a boom box...

Re: New Sailor to Buzzards Bay

Welcome. I think that it is a great time to buy a used boat. There just seem to be a lot of good deals out there. I'm out of New Bedford. When you get a boat and a name for it, let me know. I'll...

Re: New in Narragansett Bay

Hi,
Welcome and congratulations. As you probably know and will hear in other responses, you need a copy of the 2013 Eldridge. Maybe you've got it already. A little study of its tables and current...

Re: Mooring bouys

Minnewaska,
Right. I think the better analogy is not society's ability to tax. A mooring permit is different as it is a license or permit to use public property that has value. Probably a bad...

Re: Mooring bouys

I'm not sure I was clear on Vineyard Haven example. People (like me) would go nuts if we knew we could not obtain a mooring permit in a harbor unless we could pay 15,000 dollars. If this system...

Re: Mooring bouys

The cost of your mooring does not represent the true value of the privilege. Whether we like it or not our waters (and the land below) are owned in unison with all of the other citizens in our...

Re: Mooring bouys

I think we need to be careful of too vigorously proclaiming our property rights to our moorings. I have one. I paid for the tackle and inspections and such. I understand that I own my stuff. ...

Re: Volvo Penta MD5 Exhaust Pipe Elbow

Boat did well in the storm and I removed the pipe on Sunday. I had dreaded this, but it worked out fine. Two allen bolts loosened up nicely and I pulled the elbow off. I contacted a local welder...

Re: Volvo Penta MD5 Exhaust Pipe Elbow

Sorry Guys,
Had to abandon getting piece off for Sandy preparation. Still haven't removed it, I will when I go out to see how the boat faired after the storm. Stay tuned.

Re: can I afford to continue sailing

Wow. I think I'd go slow on the "dump her, keep the boat" advice. In my own life, preserving my family comes first. What comes second is the tough question, is it work/security?; is it...

Re: can I afford to continue sailing

My wife enjoys it sometimes and tolerates it all the time because members of her family and our kids enjoy trips on the boat. As long as that is the case and the boat attracts others to come back...
