Re: cruiser/racer

What kind of racing? Low key club racing or something more serious? If the first, your choices are much wider than the second. That said with your size and price constraints, you are probably...

Re: Are NADA Values accurate ?

When I was selling my previous boat (25+ years old), I found that both NADA and BucValu overestimated the price. I agree with the previous comment that they seem to use a depreciation formula rather...

Re: How to start engine on the hard?

Calebd's procedure is the way to go. DO NOT pressurize your engine directly with a garden hose! Only thing I would add to Caleb's procedure is to run your garden hose to the bucket so you can keep...

Re: How to remove a rudder - Edel 665

Note that this this thread is almost 3 years old. The above is the "new" question. It would have been better to start a new thread rather than add on to an old one.

As to the question, is there...

Re: high HP engine on a sailboat

I think you have to decide if you want a power boat or a sailboat. I think you would be surprised at how fast going upwind or reaching in a sailboat at 6-8 knots feels.

Re: Yanmar GM30 Hard to start

I'm assuming this is a 2GM or 3GM. These engines do not have glow plugs to aid in cold starting. As Faster noted, you need to give it some throttle when starting cold. I give my 3GM30F about half...

Re: Convert Cooling System to Closed Loop

There are kits made for the Atomic 4 that can be used on small diesels. Check Moyer Marine and Indigo Electronics. Here's one with an electric pump that should work on just about any engine.

Re: sealing cabin sole

If you coat the top with epoxy, be aware of "amine blush". If you don't remove it, you will have issues with the application of the varnish or poly applied afterwards. West Systems products are...

Re: Headstay failure... Need Furlex parts!

This is a 3 1/2 year old thread. I suspect the furler problem has been resolved by now.

Re: Yamaha 3hp--cooling?

My 2HP Yamaha is water-cooled. It's a 2-cycle vintage 2000. I suspect the 3 is also.

I test run mine each spring in the driveway using a garbage can filled with water.

Re: Defender's Annual Warehouse Sale!

Defender does not charge sales tax on orders shipped to other than CT. I find that typically covers most or all of the shipping charge. Yes you can probably find lower online prices on certain...

Re: Mooring pendants

Nice job with the chocks! My only suggestion would be to go to 3/4" inch minimum pennants. It's not about the breaking strength, but reduced chafe.

Re: Looking for 30-34' Club+ Racing Boat

This is a five year old thread. If you are trying to offer advice, I doubt its needed at this point. If you are looking for a similar boat, be clearer.

re: Kidde Fire Extinguisher Recall Notice

I had bought 3 of them last fall through Amazon. Got a notice from Amazon about the recall and filed with Kidde. Received replacements at no cost. Seems a part is out of tolerance and may prevent...

Re: Martec 2 Blade Prop vs. 3 blade

I have 25 year experience with Martec folderws on my last 2 boats. Some comments.

The wear Bubblehead mentioned is common. Slop in the blades is the indication. Martec will recondition the prop...

Re: Mooring pendants

I would not connect the primary pendants to the toerail. I would fear the toerail is going to get damaged in the first storm. I would put the primary through the chock to the cleat, and then...

Re: Float switch

I installed a Johnson Ultima switch last year. With only a portion of a sailing season of use, I can't comment on its long term reliability, but it functions as advertised. I like that it's sealed...

Re: MD7 Diesel in motor oil ?? maybe MD 7

First place I would look is the low pressure fuel pump. If mechanical (not electric) a bad diaphragm could allow fuel to leak into the crankcase.

Re: New 1984 oday 26 advice

My guesstimate of your probable fuel consumption on the 60 nm trip is more like 10 gallons (and probably much less). It's hard to believe a 26 foot boat at 4 kts would only make about 3 miles per...

Re: packing gland

You should be able to locate a replacement hose without too much trouble. Make sure you have the correct ID and length. Give Defender customer service a call.
