Will, I leave the valves open all the time. Water won't come into the cockpit because it is above the waterline, just like a straw in a glass of water. Just be sure that your through hull fittings ,...

Thanks Pendragon, I agree that the starts can be intimidating. The pursuit races seem like a fun idea. I will likely try hold both kind of starting formats next year.
