Re: I Paid a Dude. And I Liked It.

The person might not be rich relative to their neighbor but I guarantee that person is rich compared to most of the world. It is a point I try regularly to remind myself.

Re: Best of these Florida cities for sailing

I would think the further south you are the better for crossing the stream so Marathon would be a prime departure point. Cheers Gary

Re: Best of these Florida cities for sailing

I do like the "redneck riviera" due to the colourful water though not as popular as others as a boating destination. I think it would be nice to have the Bahamas nearby.

Re: Best inflatable pfd with harness.

Also have the spinlock deckvest. Do not like the leg straps as they slide down and then get caught on my hamstrings so I am stooped over until I can tend to it. Unfortunately it is a real nuisance...

Re: Location suggestions

I guess I should have said I am not looking for a new but used boat. My experience is that a lot of places/marinas I have been to have a vast assortment of boats for sale. I am just trying to not...

Re: Location suggestions

I would say I am of the opposite opinion. I think most boats for sale are not listed on yachtworld etc and there are some gems to be found walking the docks. However, I will still consult the...

Re: Location suggestions

Not afraid of too much there Chuck, as I said I just don't think it is relevant to the question.

There are plenty of other threads I could peruse to find information on those questions. I am not...

Re: How do I keep bow from falling off the wind anchoring?

I would suggest if anchoring under sail is after you have your scope out hoist the mainsail and with the traveler centred let out enough sheet to be on a beam reach. When the bow starts to turn you...

Re: Location suggestions

Not sure if that information would be pertinent. I am looking at boats mainly along the coast in the areas listed above - if that helps. Thanks for the response though.

Re: New EU Schengan Visa

Minne - I would think if you have been married for a period of time you could easily be granted UK citizenship. It would be your EU membership card. I am 99.9% certain there would be no tax...

Location suggestions

I am starting to shop for my next boat next week. The plan is to head for Texas and then east to Florida. After that it is up the East coast. I am fairly aware of all the larger centers where boats...

Re: Night Ops

I would suggest starting off early in the morning and get a hour or two in before sunrise. Do that a few times to get comfortable with it. If problems arise you will not have too long for light. This...

Re: Making experienced sailors/boat owners get an ASA 104 to charter

Chartered in Croatia with no bother, never asked nor showed credentials though I could have supplied them. Went through a smaller bareboat operator instead of a large operation, that might have...

Re: Are you a dock person or a mooring person?

Not for nothing, I prefer neither, I would rather be anchoring while cruising full time. The dream is close to being a reality.

Re: When Do You Get Off?

"When do you get off?" - I would hope it would continually get later as one gets more experience. It is what frustrates me when folks with little to no experience have to be "rescued". I have made it...

Congrates on the longevity of your nuptials. I have no reason to hate you since I have been to all those destinations multiple times but I am still envious. Mythos beer is a bit too creamy for my...

Never have bought a boat at auction but did recently sell a boat at auction. Didn't get the amount I bought it for but fairly close. During the auction the boat was not really available for...

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

Currency trading is quite risky and can be influenced by numerous stakeholders. A couple of weeks ago a country where I am invested issued a statement about taking measures against their currency...
