Re: Sailing around the world on a Sunfish - non stop

Relieved to read the responses. Sometimes on sailnet it seems like people spend too much time crushing dreams instead of encouraging the modern-day Slocums. Well, I mean, we should discourage the...

Re: Tow or Not

Some rich guys (or just guys, or just people?) feel an intense need to be the one "in charge" of the situation - or at least in charge of the narration of the situation - with them looking "right"...

Re: Sailboat that can be beached???

You want to be able to do it by yourself and be able to invite others. Not to have to importune others to help you do something you can't do by yourself.

Seems like three possible general...

Re: Adhesive for hatch gasket?

There is a groove but good point about eventual removal. Any rubber cement will do?

Thanks also for the tip about the ends - I will make a 45 degree cut and glue that part with the 4200.

Re: Adhesive for hatch gasket?

Thanks - will use the Home Depot stuff, doesn't have tape attached, will also use the tip to use the solvents on the neoprene too. Thinking of using 3m 4000 since I have it to hand.

Removing jib track

The genoa track works well and the jib track serves as a sharp obstacle on the small side-decks of my 7' beam of a boat. Want to take it up. The two steel screws at the end came right up. The...

Re: First Accident What Did I Do Wrong?

Turning towards the wind that's currently blowing too hard feels counter-intuitive. It also feels counter-intuitive to release the mainsheet (which I think many of us imagine as letting the sail get...

Re: How Low Can We Go? (hp)

Thanks for the replies.

Right now I'm thinking that for this season I'll just keep the one I've got and pull it out of the well when it will be several days before I use it again, just lay it on...

How Low Can We Go? (hp)

My Int'l Folkboat has an outboard well and came with a 9.8hp 2-stroke engine that weighs 60 pounds. I hate that it drags in the water when I'm sailing, I almost never run it (and then only because...

Re: Why All the Absurd Circumnavigation Threads?

I'd also guess that the virtual world inspires more fantasy - probably down at the yacht club the focus shifts back to fixing the broken winch and trying to figure out local currents.

Could you link to a picture of a "pre-feeder"? I'd like to be able to visualize what you're explaining. I'd like to be able to quickly change my furling genoa to a jib too.

Thanks.
