Re: Deck hardware: OK to attach with screws only?

Something like this hole saw (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-2-1-2-in-Bi-Metal-Hole-Saw-49-56-9631/202327753?N=5yc1vZc268) will make a nice clean access to the underside of the deck, as...

Re: Progressive Insurance Claim question

I've had USAA auto insurance for 25 years. When I went to them for boat insurance two years ago, they arranged a policy…through Progressive. I know that USAA has a stellar reputation, and because...

Re: Found This Bristol for Sale - Thoughts for New Sailors?

They insured my 1978 boat in 2012. I switched to Progressive (through USAA) a couple years later. No problem with either company.

Re: Stuffing Box Mystery

I used these cheap picks (http://www.harborfreight.com/4-piece-pick-and-hook-set-66836.html) from Harbor Freight ($1.99…I love Harbor Freight.) I added a little extra bend at the very tip of one of...

Re: Stuffing Box Mystery

Are you sure you're not measuring the wrong piece? The packing goes in the big nut.

Post a picture if you can.

Re: Poll: How much of your punch list gets done before launch?

I used my boat for two seasons before it occurred to me to check (there was one).

Re: How much of your punch list gets done before launch?

My last 48 hours, I asked myself two questions to prioritize tasks: 1) will I sink when they lower me into the water, and 2) can I motor away from the dock without catching fire.

Re: How much of your punch list gets done before launch?

I decided this year to make a list after I'm back in the water, of all the things I needed/used for the annual maintenance process: type and quantity of sandpaper, chemicals, rubber gloves, etc. I...

Re: Poll: Baltimore as a Destination

The areas where those riots occurred were not the areas that any tourist or boater is going to go anyway. In fact, in some of the news photos of riot cops you can see boarded up windows in the...

Poll: How much of your punch list gets done before launch?

I'm splashing tomorrow. I was at the boat until 11:00 PM doing a few last minute things…but a bunch of items on my list will have to wait until I can do them in the water or until next year. How...

I bought this set...

Re: Old survey to new surveyor?

If I'm asking someone to give me an assessment, I prefer to have them start from scratch rather than providing them someone else's assessment beforehand. That's a scientific principle to get good,...

Re: Too big a fish fishing off our boats?

I don't know jack about deep sea fishing, but it seems unwise to wrap the line around your hand, as the guy in black appears to be doing at 0:54. Is this normal?

Re: What to use as a mast wiring fitting?

I used one of these brass fittings for the same project. It looks nice and was pretty easy to install.

It's good to help people, but sometimes it's enough to observe that they already have help from someone else. As another poster noted, they didn't need a whole fleet of guide boats.

It's like...

Re: Questions about borrowing a friend's boat

I also have USAA for my cars, but when I contacted them about my boat they wrote a policy through Progressive. I'm guessing your friend has the same arrangement.
