Re: Soliciting thoughts on a new outboard

The original post mentioned that he has a 1968 CAL 25, that answers the question of whether this is a 25 or a 2-25. The 2-25 did not go into production until the 1977 model year. I agree though that...

Re: Cal 21 mast length?

I don't remember the exact length of the mast, but 26'4" jumps out of my memory. I have a copy of the original sailplan drawing from Bill Lapworth and the mast length is noted there. It is the same...

Re: mahogany tiller

I assume that you are refering to the RUDDER, since the tiller is unlikely to be in the water since it is attached to the top of the rudder. You could leave the rudder in the water all the time, but...

Re: New CAL 21 Owner

One important point to watch when stepping the mast on a CAL 21 is to be sure that all turnbuckles are properly positioned (be sure toggles are standing up, toggles are the "U" shaped parts that the...

OOPS!
You are 100% correct.....I must have been at least half-asleep when I typed Rob Perry! (Do I need to "eat my hat" now? If you are familiar with the history of the CAL 9.2 you will get the...

Re: Cal 21 Owners

I'll try to post the full-color brochure here, sorry if it is a bit low-res to keep it small enough for posting limits.

Re: Cal 21 Owners

A few more thing to address the low number of CAL 21s built. I don't think it was problems stepping/unstepping the mast that "killed" the CAL 21. I know of many other similar trailerable sailboats...

Re: Cal 21 Owners

Exactly how many CAL 21s were built is hard to pin down exactly. Jensen Marine (aka CAL Sailboats) had 2 plants at the time that the 21 was in production, one in Costa Mesa, CA and one in Marlboro,...

Re: Cal 21 Owners

Sailnova, the key to using the 1/4" brass rod for a locking bolt is to set it up right.
First, we inserted a bushing into the hole in hte keel for the locking bolt, reducing the hole to just over...

Re: Cal 21 Owners

I have an article fro man old SMALL BOAT JOURNAL magazine that shows how someone removed his RHODES 19 off the trailer each year to paint the bottom and the centerboard. I use a modified version of...

Re: Looking to buy C21-many keel questions

Sailnova;
After lowering the keel and inserting the locking bolt (by now you probably figured out where it goes?) you unhook the cable from the tip of the keel, and reel in the cable on hte winch....

Sailnova, I didn't forget about your question concerning the mast step. However, I needed to log a few more posts before I could answer your private message. This post should do it! I' mnot sure that...

Re: Hi, we too got a new/used Cal 21

Rippy, the transverse bulkhead just forward of the keel well is VERY necessary! The forces of the keel act against that bulkhead reducing flex of the keel well which prevents fatigue at the point...

Re: Hi, we too got a new/used Cal 21

Sailnova;
Even with the bulkheads and everything in place the top of the keel trunk will still flex and sway a bit undersail. It only moves about 1/4 -1/2" due to the bulkhead restraining it...but...

This boat is not a CAL. The smallest model in the CAL line was the CAL 20, built from 1962-1975. If this boat is called a "Cal" it would be a very different Cal brand, not to be confused with the...

There used to be a Cutter-rigged Marlin daysailer in Wareham on the mooring next to ours when we had our CAL 21. I think she was a 1960 model, when the owner bought her she had one of those ugly...
