Re: Anyone taken a Columbia 28 offshore?

I have been off shore in a trip Columbia 26. We sailed south out of Key West into a lively gulf stream with a 15 knot wind opposing the stream, nice 10 to 15 foot swells. Took them on the beam in a...

Re: Living in Florida

My freinds just bought a nice house on a canal on Sugarloaf key for 250.
They had moved from the Pan Handle to escape the cold winters. I could buy a 6 room mansion on 4 acres for 39 grand in west...

Re: Living in Florida

It's hard after living in the Key's to live anywhere else in Fla. It depends on what you do for work. You can get a house on a canal on some of the smaller lesser known key's, like Big Coppit, and...

Re: Sailing from California to Florida via the Panama Canal

I don't see what the big deal is. This sight makes it sound like you can't sail from here to there.
I can't tell you much about small boat sailing from Cali to Panama other than I know it can be...

Re: remove cove stripe - yeah or nay

I got rid of all my stripes, even the boot, and love the clean look. Go to my page and see what no boot stripe looks like. I saw another boat coming towards me with just a white hull and trinidad red...

Re: Got to Stop being Stupid

I was gunna say the same about the stream. I've been out in it with north winds enough to know I don't want to do it again. But I don't think he was within 50 miles of the stream.

Re: Got to Stop being Stupid

I would of had my main down to the second reef. If you don't have a second reef you should think about putting one in. You most def. should have had a hankerchief of main up and set to the right...

Re: What's your biggest bonehead move sailing?

I think my biggest Bone head move was around 1993. I was sailing back from Belize to Key West. After spending 3 day's hove to in the straights of Fla. in a wicked norther, I spotted the lights of...

Re: Musings of a Live Aboard

ME: Sure, by the way, I've alway's wonderd what it was like to to live in a house,...

Re: Sailing from Tampa to Key West

I just did that trip and do it often. I seriously suggest that you leave Marco in the late after noon so to arrive at the entrance to the North West Channel in mid morning. It's a nice over night...

Re: Twenty miles from Connecticut to Guatamala

My favorite thing to do, is sail up to a dock with a bar/ rest. and sit there sipping a beer, look at my boat and say to my self " I sailed all the way here" It never ceases to amaze me.

Re: Twenty miles from Connecticut to Guatamala

In Guanaja we have docks here and there, no "Marinas" But on the Rio Dulce you will find marinas like that. Pilings, lots of slips etc. This where my boat is right now15482
There are places I sail...

Re: What's the most absurd seller statement you've heard

We bought Cal 30 something in Miami off of E-bay for 1000 bucks. The guy's who collectively owned it had let the boat fill with sea water and them dumped a few gallons of old oil in there to boot in...

Re: Take your dock lines or leave them?

I get it. Each slip has a different story to tell. in Honduras on an average day sail I sail to and off 3 docks. The one I'm at, the one that sells beer and ice and the one out at the beach bar and...

Re: Take your dock lines or leave them?

I can see leaving some lines hanging on a piling. That makes sense. I dock and move barges and tugs all day for a living, and pull in and out of my Marina in key west on a 40 dive boat single handed...

Re: Take your dock lines or leave them?

I take my lines. And I use them at the other docks I sail to. I for the life of me can't understand why you would leave 'em. Like what, sitting out there in the sun. If people are having a tough...

Re: Docking Disaster

Hey, my 40 foot dive boat, the very first time I drove it. All I had to do was back out of my slip, turn a round in a basin and nose back in. To turn in the basin required a 3 point turn. When I went...

Re: Water Useage/conservation Cruising

Re: Water Useage/conservation Cruising

The water we sail in is so nutrient poor and of such "high" quality, we consider it sacred. We swim and bath in it, it heals our wounds and cures our hang overs. I friken brush my teeth with it! To...
