Bulkhead Repair proposal

I've got a bulkhead with some rot near the deck due to leaking where the chainplates pierce the deck.

My plan was to cut out the upper section of the bulkhead with at a 9 or 10 to 1 angle and...

Tartan 30 Wire Chase

On my Tartan 30 several wires, including those from the engine panel and the 8GA positive wire to the main switch panel, run for an extra 20ft for no reason I can determine.

The wires run aft from...

Re: Universal M4-30 Alternator Belt

Thanks everyone. Hints from this forum and some extra digging reveals how to parse the part numbers.

7345 XL = 7/32" top-width x 34.5 length

11A0875 = 11mm" top-width (A section?) x 875mm...

Re: Universal M4-30 Alternator Belt

Thanks for the link.

The belt is very badly worn, so these measurements are not precise. It's about 34.5" long, 5/16" wide at the top, and 3/16" deep.

Nothing on that site seems to match those...

Universal M4-30 Alternator Belt

The M4-30 on my boat had a "Carquest" alternator belt. There are two part numbers on it: "7345 XL" and "11A0875"

This is a simple v-belt with no cogs. When I look up 11A0875 online, I only find...

Animated favicon drives up FireFox CPU usage

The favicon appears in every SailNet tab, as well as on the url bar.

If I manually block animated favicon, FireFox's CPU usage drops by quite a bit, depending on how many SailNet tabs were open.

Re: Who dives on their own Boat?

I learned to dive so that I could do under water repairs on my old boat. It's easy and fun. It doesn't look like you have a dive computer, so just check your depth vs maximum bottom time on your...

Re: Do I Need A Solar Charge Controller?

Does anyone make a charger controller that will take input from:
Solar, an unregulated alternator, a wind generator, and an AC-powered 12v power supply?

It seems that all the various bits of a...

Re: Is ELCI needed if AC only runs to GFCI outlets?

I found mine on either Boat Parts and Marine Supplies - Great Lakes Skipper (http://greatlakesskipper.com/) or their ebay store. I don't recall. The products are the same, but the prices vary.

Re: Advice on removing snapped s/s bolts from alu block

I've had this exact problem. I've tried most of the solutions posted here, including an oxy-mapp torch.

The thing that worked in the end: an arc welder.

There's corrosion between the bolt and...

Two reasons to go LED:
1) The new light would be mounted above...

The fixtures themselves have no backs, so I...

Is ELCI needed if AC only runs to GFCI outlets?

Short version: 30A main breaker running to two branches. Each branch powers a GFCI outlet. Can I skip the ELCI?

Long version: I'm tearing out and replacing the AC electrical system on my boat.

Re: Any sailors in new england?

We sail out of Boston Harbor. A raftup within a day's sail would work for us. So... anywhere from Salem to Plymouth would be doable. Any further than that would be tricky.

Re: 1975 Tartan 30-C Resto

Anyone use the Schumacher SS-15A3-OB?

Re: We did it! We took our 3 week old sailing today!

We sail with our five-month-old daughter, Zoey. She's usually in someone's lap, in a car seat identical to MedSailor's -- but our favorite place to put her is her booster seat.

Her seat is the...

Greetings from Boston

Hello everybody!

I'm new to SailNet but have been sailing for most of my life.
I used to sail on a custom 37' ketch and a 17' Siren in Miami.

I've since moved to Boson and sail a Tartan 30C...
