Re: Engine problem vs Improper functioning of the Prop

It is not common. I have been installing and servicing them for decades and have never heard of one spontaneously altering its pitch settings.

BTW- it's "Max Prop" not "Maxi prop". Sorry, pet...

Re: Engine problem vs Improper functioning of the Prop

I don't know how that is even possible without the prop coming apart or the internal mechanism physically breaking.

Re: Copper sheeting & CopperCoat anti-fouling

So what frequency of cleaning do you suggest? Fouling rates vary so widely from region to region that there is no way to incorporate a meaningful cleaning protocol into the PS anti fouling paint...

Re: Copper sheeting & CopperCoat anti-fouling

What you are talking about is sanding several mils of thickness of hardened epoxy from the entire wetted surface of a 50' sailboat with a tool not designed to do the job, all while floating...

Re: Copper sheeting & CopperCoat anti-fouling

Do not confuse a copper-loaded epoxy (which is what BoatyardBoy has created) with a modified epoxy paint. Completely different animals.

Re: Copper sheeting & CopperCoat anti-fouling

I beg to differ. If you understood how copper-loaded epoxies worked, you wouldn't have come in here claiming you won't have to haul for ten years. My job is not to beat a dead horse but to enlighten...

Re: DIY Boat Yard Bottom Job...Advice needed!

What can I say? It is California after all. But I suspect the same is true elsewhere. Boatyards fall under different and more restrictive regulations than do hull cleaners.

Re: new bottom paint

Here in the Bay Area, you're looking at about $2K for two coats of Pettit Trinidad.

Re: DIY Boat Yard Bottom Job...Advice needed!

I don't know how it is in Florida where the OP is, but in California, boatyards are required to handle the fouling growth and anti fouling paint that are removed during pressure washing operations as...

Re: DIY Boat Yard Bottom Job...Advice needed!

Can vary widely. Completely dependent upon the condition of the bottom and the state of the fouling.

Re: DIY Boat Yard Bottom Job...Advice needed!

Not sure why you assume pressure washing and scraping a hard anti fouling paint will make it "fine." If the paint is more than two or three years old, there will be little or no copper left to be...

Re: Copper sheeting & CopperCoat anti-fouling

Maybe you've failed to understand that the way any anti fouling coating works is by continually delivering biocide to the surface of the coating. Traditional anti fouling paints do this by design....

They are very common, at least in these parts. I see them every day.

Re: Copper sheeting & CopperCoat anti-fouling

The CopperCoat web site specifically indicates that their product cannot be used over any anti fouling paint. The hull must be stripped back to gel coat before application. Whether the inverse is...

Re: Copper sheeting & CopperCoat anti-fouling

Not a baited comment, simply the truth. You read my post on the other forum. I'm just relaying what I know from years of in-water experience with copper-loaded epoxies.

Maybe it'll work great for...

Re: Copper sheeting & CopperCoat anti-fouling

It's not a "product", it's a kitchen sick concoction that BoatyardBoy is apparently hoping will work much as copper-loaded epoxies like Copperpoxy claim to.

Re: Bottom paint for summer only fresh water boat?

Hard paints cannot withstand prolonged periods exposed to air. Unless you want to repaint annually, you need to use an ablative. Or as others have suggested, a thin-film vinyl paint like VC17.

Re: Emeryville or Berkeley Marina "live aboard" permit/rental/availability..anyone?

The marinas do not issue liveaboard permits but rather are limited to a 10% liveaboard tenancy. Therefore, if a marina has reached its maximum number of liveaboard tenants, you will not be allowed to...

Re: Zinc Consumption question

Jeezus, not arguing. Just do not understand your logic. Was hoping you could explain it. I guess that's asking too much.

BTW- you presume that I know who you are on the other forum. I do not.

Re: Zinc Consumption question

Having installed many hundreds of Max Prop zincs, I can tell you that my experience is that on many boats they do not last as long as other zincs, regardless of manufactured them. Why this is, I...

Re: Prop and Shaft Barnacles

Well, in this Bay Area, boats need cleaning every couple of months. Hauling for routine cleaning every time it needs it just ain't done.
