Re: Boat Buying Costs

Hi Barry,

That is perfect! Thank you! Even if the prices aren't consistent, I can at least get a clear idea of regular maintenance tasks. I can also review your list for questions I can ask of...

Re: Boat Buying Costs

Hi Faster,

This is a bit off-topic but it is something else I've been interested in. What, specifically, do you do yourself? I've done very minor electrical/plumbing/carpentry work around the...

Re: Boat Buying Costs

Hi Sloop,

Since you brought it up, yes I am a professional project manager, so research and planning are part of my DNA. As I mentioned earlier, while I want to be aware of one-off costs, they...

Re: Boat Buying Costs

Hi Sloop!

I've seen that figure before, and I'm prepared to work with it if all else fails, but at best it represents a vague number. What I'm trying to do is hammer down fixed costs.

Boat Buying Costs

Hi,

The Sailnet Community was very helpful in responding to my first post, so I've decided to come back to you again for more insight. I'm trying to put together a budget plan for buying our...

Re: What to look for in a new boat

Wow. Lots of feedback on the marina/club question.

I live in the Toronto area and have a preferred area that has one marina and a few clubs to choose from. Now it's simply an issue of comparing...

Re: What to look for in a new boat

Thanks for all the feedback from everyone. I've seen several good suggestions.

It seems I have some research to do before we start narrowing our search down to a particular product. I'll be back...

Re: What to look for in a new boat

Thank-you so much for all the input. Out of the Hunter/Beneteau/Catalina, does any one have a better track record for service/maintenance than the others?

What I'm looking for is performance...

Re: What to look for in a new boat

Thanks, CarbonSink62!

Going from chartering to owning is a pretty steep learning curve, but I'm determined to climb it!

Cheers!

After several years of lessons, skipper charters and day-sail charters, my wife and I have decided to buy our own boat. We know the basics of what we want:

- 36-38 foot
- $85,000 max budget
