Re: Is there any reason not to move the fuel vent?

My diesel vent would suck water when motor sailing in following sea's, which was not good. I did not have room for a large loop in the vent hose, so I vented the tank inside the boat with a over flow...

Re: fill in old screw holes on boom?

I would fill the holes in the boom. Plastic or nylon screws would be best or I think you can get some plugs (not cork) at the hardware store that will pop into the holes. Unless you have a wood boom,...

Re: Fitting place for this post....

DonScribner, you were most likely pinching the wind, which is defined as "Too sail too close to the wind so that the sails luff and the speed drops." It is some times fun to pinch if you want to go...

Re: Downwind Sailing

I would think DDW would be slower, but you will get to the finish first because you travel less distance than someone doing a broad reach then jybing several times.

Winter vs. Summer Sails

This is likely off topic. But I could find no better place to for it.

Re: Need a headsail..what to go with?

Get the 155 genoa. You can use it furled about 4 turns, and as your skills improve let it out. You will have more fun and your skills will quickly get better. If you go with the 110 it may be several...

Re: Should I learn the sextant?

Sailing can be a life time of learning. Sailing has a long history and the sextant is a part of that history. I would vote for learning celestial navigation and all things related to sailing.

Re: How do you feel about catamarans?

Tropic Cat, the question asked by "Solon" wanted to know about catamarans. "Solon" is doing home work, just as all of have done. That's why the best boat in the world is the one you own and sail. The...

Learned to sail on a Sunfish while I was stationed in Puerto Rico, 1968. Was the sailing instructor after that.

Re: How do you feel about catamarans?

Some years ago while sailing Mexico, we were out in 40 + Knts doing fine. There was a large Cat out at the same time. They had lots of trouble pointing, and the wind keep pushing them broadside to...

Re: CNN on Rogue Waves

I think the movie "White Squall" documented monster waves pretty well. Now that satellites scan the earth, they have pinpointed several locations where these monster waves are common.

Re: Robert Redford, Sailor

It is a movie, it's value is partly what you bring, and the entertainment you experience, and like art what you gain while viewing.

Re: Going ashore while on the hook

Re: Marina Fuel Nozzle Too Big

I have had this same problem. I was told that the fuel station was for large commercial boats ( D class ships) and the large nozzle is to pump fuel faster. A funnel comes in handy.
