Re: Beaufort SC / Savannah Low Country Info Request

Beaufort, being on a river, and not all that wide of one relative to sailing, would not be my choice to daysail out of. I would use the north end of Hilton Head Island (Skull Creek Marina - Hilton...

Re: How to know for certain whether marinas actually *do* or don't want liveaboards?

Usually, any liveaboard friendly marina will have a long term, 6mo-1yr rate and most have a separate liveaboard fee. The fuller a marina is, the more likely they'll want transient or short term...

Re: US Approves Ferry Service to Cuba

I'm wondering where all the "this belongs in Off Topic" folks are, since this is strictly a political decision.

Re: Looking for parts and manual

Can't help ya there, but I will mention (for future reference) you're liable to get more responses if you put the boat in the title.

Re: Windlass foot switch alternatives?

I have mine set up with a up/down switch at the helm, and an up foot switch (was already there) at the bow. Since I'm singlehanding, I generally raise the anchor from the cockpit.

Re: Alligator River Bridge closed at Mile 84

Going the east side of Roanoke is really no different than traversing many other parts of the ICW. A long boring channel that requires paying attention.

Re: North Carolina to Key Biscayne, FL

Beaufort/Morehead City to Charleston is 6 days. 3 more to Savannah. Haven't done the ICW from there to Cumberland Island/St Marys or Fernadina Beach, but reckon 3 days. 'Nother week to Miami.

Re: Would you work 1 additional year to go from $50k to $150k boat

Have you actually done any boat hunting? Could be just the boat, at just your price is out there right now (they ain't gonna get any cheaper). If ya can't find what ya want, keep working until you do.

Re: Is flying a pirate flag lame?

The funny part about this thread is that anyone would worry about what someone else thinks about something so trivial.

Re: Journey or the Destination

Without a destination, there is no journey. Both have pluses and minuses, so why worry about which you "enjoy" more, just enjoy.

Re: East Coast Marinas - need no frills just less expensive?

Go a bit past Oriental to New Bern, 'bout as cheap of rates as you'll find, with a number of marina's to choose from.

Re: Best Coastal Cruiser under 37 ft

I'm not sure what you mean by a "better boat". What is it your Catalina is lacking, that you want something else? Is there something about a different boat that would enhance your time on the water?...

Re: Wilmington NC area marina/yacht club

You've got a number of different ways to go in that area, though I'm not really familiar with the marinas.

I would look at Wrightsville Beach first. Good inlet out to open water.

Southport is...

Re: Liveaborders that never leave the slip? I don't get it. Help!

If public, then yes. If private, then no.

It should be noted though, that the existence of a problem does not guarantee the existence of an acceptable solution.

Re: Liveaborders that never leave the slip? I don't get it. Help!

I think zee made a very relevant point. For a liveaboard, it's more than a boat, it's home.

Re: Overwhelmed and Anxious/New

You should also be looking into a place to berth it, and what that will add to your budget, as there aren't many choices (basically Seward, Whittier, and Valdez by road access). As you're in the...
