Re: Outboards: sailing with the motor down.

in light air I get it out of the water as soon as possible. in heavy wind I leave it down for 2 reasons. I might need a little push in a hurry and it helps to add a little drag sometimes. I'm not...

Re: Permanent vs. portable fuel tank

I keep a 6 gallon can to top off the 3 gallon so its not about getting stranded. The beach furthest away from my dock, that I would motor to when there is no wind, comes dangerously close to...

Re: What do you pay for Slip Fees??

Buffalo NY on the western end of lake Erie. $1200 per season for a 30' dock with water. Electric is $100 more and the season is 5 months long. That works out to $240 per month. More than I would...

Re: Lake sailors?

If I could somehow move Lake Erie south I would never have any need for ocean sailing. Anyone can afford to live within 10 or 20 minuets away from the marina here in Buffalo. I've spent months out...

Re: Painting the deck....

Marine grade gorilla grip non-skid worked very well for me. Everything that I wasn't replacing got taped off. Wipe the clean surface down with a solvent like MEK and roll it on. It looks beautiful...

Re: why a storm jib?

I use my storm jib a few times per year as a fair weather sailor. Usually when the wind is blowing over 20 knots. Keeps me on the water sailing a little longer and keeps my guests from shitting...

Re: towing vehicle choices

My 2010 F-150 does an excellent job of towing around my 26'er. no need for 4x4 as long as you have a little weight in the back over the tires if your pulling on slimy ramps. I am on a lake that...

Re: Outboard - new or used?

the bang for your buck will be with the 2 stroke outboard. With how popular the 4 stroke outboards have become, 2 stroke motors are cheap and abundant. The only down side is mixing the oil
