Re: Carpet in a Sailboat?

My Beneteau suffered from the dreaded headliner rot when I got her. I replaced all the liner and hull covers with Sailrite's HullBlanket Headliner/Hull Liner Carpet (Type Ivory M93 72")
It was very...

Another one here that paid asking price.
As said before, you offer what the boat is worth to you. Fair value!
In my case the seller set his price, it was at my budget, and so the only thing that...

Hi

I have an F26, which after meeting up with something solid underwater ended up with a broken table when my son used it to stop his headlong rush down the entranceway. I ended up building a new...

Re: West Marine makes enemies

Here's my issue with WM.
I hate losing money, but I also hate online shopping. Typically when I need something for the boat, it is needed now - not in a week, not hopefully the right thing.
I also...

Re: Hauled the boat - What's this on my keel?

Hi Paul

Isn't that the exact reason to put on an epoxy barrier coat? - Preventing future osmotic blister problems.

I dont have a major problem (other boats in the yard with 1000's of small...

Mystery Solved.....

It turns out the "ridge" in the keel is a cut-out for the bilge.
In this photo of the sanded keel it is much more clear.

Re: Hauled the boat - What's this on my keel?

Jim
Thanks for the reminder on the "still sticky" barrier paint.

With regards the very uniform mark on the keel - no, thats not paint lifting. I'l cleen that area today with a wire brush, but it...

Re: Hauled the boat - What's this on my keel?

Thanks C-witch.
That's what I intend to do as well. Got enough to put on 3 coats of the barrier epoxy and two of the hard anti fouling paint.
My boat lives in fresh water - I hope to be "good" for...

Hauled the boat - What's this on my keel?

I hauled my 1986 Bene F26 on Thursday for a bottom painting job.
I noticed something on my keel (I believe steel) that I don't know what it is. See photo
This looks like a welding ridge on the keel...

Re: Blister repair without drying the hull - EpoxyUSA "Bliscoat" system

LOL - Snake oil you think....:)

I guess I should know better - most of my "short cuts" do tend to end in a lot more $$ and time....

Blister repair without drying the hull - EpoxyUSA "Bliscoat" system

I'm preparing to pull my boat for what I believe is the first time in more than 5 years out of the water (I've owned her for about 18 months now).
Lots of prepping for the complete gamut of bottom...

Re: Electronics/instruments for lake sailing?

As a fellow lake sailor here (Lanier in GA) you definitely need a depth meter.
In addition, for maps Navionics has a very nice app that for about $10 gives you navigation maps for all US lakes.

Welcome to Lanier

I'm also sailing on Lanier. Awesome sailing - especially now that we've got water in the lake again :-)
Lots of sailboats on the lake, but also tons of stinkboaters :-)
Lanier gets very busy...

Re: How do I get insurance and how much does it cost?

I just recently insured my boat for "Agreed Value" through BoatUS

When applying for the insurance, I listed the actual price I paid for the boat, but asked to insure it for quite a bit more.
They...

Re: Navionics chart plotter / GPS app for Droid phone, plus Chesapeake Smart Buoys

I like the Navionics - not because its better than anything else, but because its the only charting App for inland lakes in the USA. The $9.99 paid is definitely worth it.

The other two Apps I use...

Re: Blister repair prep

Re: Blister repair prep

The idea is a plastic pouch / patch slightly larger than the blister glued with some type of suitable compound (maybe even using Main Sail's butyl tape).
Stick all around but a small opening at top...
