Grill or anchor?

Please pardon my ignorance once again.

I have this grill on my rail which has pretty much stayed covered up since I bought the boat a while ago. Just getting around to paying attention to it.

Re: If the diesel tank is done for...

After talking to the good folks at Hoffman Yachts at the Shelter Island boatyard, I had them install a new custom tank from American Tanks. They got it out by cutting out just a little bit of the...

Re: If the diesel tank is done for...

Thanks for the feedback and potential costs, Paul, it'll help me plan, and LSS, that's an interesting idea I hadn't thought of. Anyone else using fuel bladders?

Re: If the diesel tank is done for...

Hey Denise, thanks for the feedback and the idea of cutting out the tank rather than the cockpit. I'll definitely include that in the options to talk about.

By the way, I don't see any "crying...

If the diesel tank is done for...

Well, I'm still trying to confirm but it might be that my extremely rusty old diesel fuel tank on my CAL 29 is finally seeping fuel out, leaking.

If it is, it seems my options are:

1. Replace...

Re: Gremlins in the chain locker

This was a good and interesting thread.

I just wanted to say that "Gremlins in the Chain Locker" should either be:

1. The title of my autobiography. Or...
2. A euphemism for something,...

Thanks for the info. It sounds like exactly what I need. Amazon says it'll be here by the end of the week!

For mostly daysailing like me, do people filet their own on the boat (feed the...

Someone help the fishing newbie, plz!

Just realized how much I do NOT know about fishing...And while I've been Googling for an hour, I'm still lost.

Have a Cal-29 that I sail out of San Diego and many times while I'm cruising past the...

Re: Cruising chute...keep or sell?

Thanks. I forgot to say, that I DO have an autopilot that mostly goes in the direction I want that should help when hoisting single handed. I already use it to raise/lower sail.

Is it hard to...

Re: Mystery water in bilge in CAL-29

Well, I wish I could report that I found the cause. I never did. It just stopped.

No wonder sailors are superstitious.

Re: Cruising chute...keep or sell?

Thanks, everyone! I have to admit, when I unfolded it in the yard I felt an urge to just try to use it. I think I'll do that.

Do I really just need a short painter for the tack, a spare...

First over the horizon trip...Catalina or San Clemente?

Thinking of taking my boat for a longer over the horizon trip from San Diego Bay where I do most of my sailing.

I've been sailing for years, but haven't yet taken a solo trip any further than...

Cruising chute...keep or sell?

My boat (CAL 29) came with a spinnaker of some kind. I usually sail single-handed and have just gotten around to pulling that sail out and unfolding it in the backyard to see what it is.

I am...

Re: Mystery water in bilge in CAL-29

Not yet. She's getting hauled for a bottom clean/paint this morning (previously planned) so we'll see if anything turns up upon inspection from that angle.

Re: Mystery water in bilge in CAL-29

Thanks everyone!

Tommays, appreciate all the hints! It's coming from forward, only the forward part of the bilge gets it. So it's not the rudder post (I have a wheel) or stern tube as they...

Re: Mystery water in bilge in CAL-29

Still not sure where it's coming from. Got an inspection mirror and flash light and looked over the baffle into the forward bilge. Barely can fit the mirror/light.

Can't find any evidence of...

Re: Mystery water in bilge in CAL-29

The plot thickens...

There does seem to be an over-water discharge on the starboard side for the head sink drain that looks like it might benefit from some caulk around the edges. I'll do that...

Re: Mystery water in bilge in CAL-29

Thanks everyone for the thoughts! Good ideas for me to check. The fresh-water usage is definitely something that I do only on big sails so checking the tank for the cause and inspecting the lines...

Mystery water in bilge in CAL-29

Hey all,

Just back from a great trip out for an overnight anchorage (saw dolphins, whales, and more).

But I saw again an issue that I've been meaning to post about and pick your collective...

Re: Need a San Diego diesel mechanic recommendation

Ended up using Craig Coleman as Poopdeckpappy recommended. He was flexible, prompt, courteous, reasonable and reasonably priced, and fixed my leaky fuel line problem.

I'll probably use him again.

Re: Recognize this furler?

Got it. Thanks. Makes sense on all counts!

I'll experiment more with sailing under main alone.

Re: when was the last time you cleaned your bilge?

I'd love to be able to clean my bilges better or more often...

On my CAL29, there are basically 3 accessible bilge areas separated by baffles. The forward-most two are under the cabin floor and...
