Re: Autopilot Wireless Remote Control

Got any details, parts list, circuit board, etc? I'd jump on the opportunity to buy a kit I could solder together myself.

Edit: Oh it's an arduino project... cool.

Re: Cheap floating dock -- how to build?

Depending on how long you need it to last you may want to check out what the folks are doing at the ephemerisle event. One floating platform design I've seen is to take 4x8' sheets of pressure...

Re: Should I spend thousands on lessons, or....

I've been learning without lessons and am about 1 year in to this process now. I had been sailing about 6 times with a friend and decided I needed to do this for myself. I looked at the cost of...

Re: Boarding and rafting to stranger's boats.

I'm not at all in this situation but this discussion brings a question to mind... what do you do when you want to leave and someone is rafted up to you? If I'm the boat on the dock no a side tie and...

Re: Sailing into the slip

Re: Sailing into the slip

It's a safety issue for me. I have an old outboard at 12 years and have to expect it's going to die at some inconvenient time. So I practice sailing into my slip with the motor running and in...

Re: So, Who Are You?

What Boat do you have or Want? :

1973 Ranger 23. Don't want anything else as long as I'm just day sailing in the bay. If I decide to leave the golden gate or move... I'll think about it.

Re: The future of the sailing world. Why are there so few young people cruising??

I'm about to turn 39. We live in the SF bay area and have great jobs, dual income, no kids, no debt (no CC, school loans, nothing). Our vehicles are all old and paid for, we save money every month....

Re: Somebody just posted this on Facebook and I thought I'd share it here!

I had the opportunity to drink some of this at Burning Man a couple of years ago.... Not so good straight. It might work well mixed though.

Re: Any experience on a good racing watch?

I was recently given a well used suunto yachtsman watch. It had been used by the previous owner for at least 5 seasons of ocean racing and cruising in the Atlantic/Caribbean. It has the race timer as...

Re: Advice on SF Bay summer sailing

I had no idea that the currents would persist long after high or low tide. Are there many accidents happening due to sailors being pushed into bridges, islands, and rocks? What are your thought...

Re: Advice on SF Bay summer sailing

IIRC the main was measured by someone from rooster sails but actually made by UK (both patches are on the sail)... I'll have to look at what it will cost to get another set of reef points on it and...

Re: Advice on SF Bay summer sailing

Thanks everyone for all the advice. The boat has been well maintained by the previous owner of 12 years. It needs topside paint badly but rigging was replaced about 10 years ago, bottom paint is...

Re: How did you get your start in sailing?

Had a passing interest in sailing for a number of years. Grew up with lake powerboats and wanted to do something "not that". Life took a couple of unexpected turns and I ended up in a relationship...

I needed a boat that would fit my desire to learn, grow, and be out on the water.

I had little experience sailing so it needed to be small enough to be manageable with one or two people.
