Re: RF Main pros and cons

With lazy jack systems and dutchman systems, sail stacks, etc, it seems a RF main is only for those who want more parts to maintain and break.

Re: Sailing Alone Better?

I like sailing alone and sailing with others on board.

First, I'm skipper so what I say on my boat goes on my boat. If someone can't handle that, they can stay on shore. Can't have a bunch of...

Re: How do I start my sailing adventures.

I would start on something like a lazer. They're a blast. Buy one used, learn and get experience with it until you finish school. It's easily stored, easy to rig, easy to transport, and easy to...

Re: What is the most idiotic mistake you have made on a boat?

It was the first time I was prepping the boat for the trailer. Several months before that, a gentleman taught me on a similar model how to lower the mast so I was going off of memory.
Well, I...

Re: San Diego (also questions about boat ownership in California)

I'm glad there's roadside assistance. I might need it for any flats on the way to catalina island.

Re: yacht writer wanted

I appreciate the work you do on my behalf.

FWIW folks, a website I get my few contracts through just came out this year and said that writers MUST be paid at least $3/hr.
Makes me laugh since I...

Re: San Diego (also questions about boat ownership in California)

Also good info as I'm coming from lake sailing to ocean.

Someone mentioned coast guard numbers. So you don't have to register with coast guard?

How do they assess value? By purchase price or do they do some sort of market value type deal?

Thanks for your answers.

Re: San Diego (also questions about boat ownership in California)

The "use tax" is a one time thing at purchase, right? Not annual?

San Diego (also questions about boat ownership in California)

We'll be relocating soon and a possibility is San Diego.
Is sailing in San Diego require shallow draft or anything like that? What does it cost there to own a boat (registration, etc)? I've seen...

Re: Annoying Halyard Slap

I'm the "crazy" person who said it's "music to me".
Half my childhood was on a sailboat and the slapping halyards just bring back some fond memories of my parents--one of whom died while I was...

Re: Annoying Halyard Slap

Hearing them at the marina is music to me.

I leave mine attached but it's slack enough that it doesn't slap.
