Re: Resealing the Stern Tube?

Ok you have sufficiently worried me to redo the project. I'm still out the water and only rushed to get the stern tube down so that my new engine can go in. I will pull it apart tomorrow and start...

Re: Hole in hull

How did you get your hole? Was it a drill hole that was filled?

Re: Hole in hull

I'm glad this has come up as I have some holes from old seacocks to fill. The old ones had 4 holes and the new ones have 3. My holes are already bevelled from the bolt heads so i think i will use the...

Re: Name these sailboats?

I was going to suggest an old Van De Stadt for the second boat but clearly it's not. The first one looks well kept.

Re: Dripless Shaft Seal versus Stuffing Box

I've just bought a PSS dripless also. Not tested it yet but the rubber is quite thick and feels sturdy. I believe that with regular inspections and changing as eherlihy said it should be fine. I plan...

Re: OOD34 owner from Trinidad

I just realized that I never uploaded any photos of the boat. These were taken the day I hauled her out. She remains much the same as work has been painfully slow.

Re: Resealing the Stern Tube?

Ok I managed to get the stern tube down over the weekend. I used a bedding compound that came in a roll. I don't know the name of it as a friend gave me some and I don't think even he knows that...

Re: Resealing the Stern Tube?

No not the cutlass bearing - I already changed that (with lots of swearing). It's the bronze tube to which the dripless seal attaches.

The general consensus seems to be not 5200. I will look...

Resealing the Stern Tube?

I've removed the Stern Tube on my OOD34 so that I can replace all the bolts before my new engine goes in. I was planning to use 5200 to reseal it but have been discouraged by a couple of friends. One...

Re: newbie from Swansea Uk OOD34

Unfortunately my boat doesn't have a fancy backstay tensioner. It's been located in Trinidad in the Caribbean for the last 25 yrs or so and thus hasn't been modernised. I think the work I'm doing now...

Re: newbie from Swansea Uk OOD34

Hi Martyn
I'm also a newbie OOD 34 owner. I bought Moonshot at the beginning of the year which was also allowed to deteriorate by the previous owners. She's my first boat and is presently out the...

OOD34 owner from Trinidad

Hi there. Just joined today and am a first time boat owner so I am in the lower part of the massive learning curve about boats.

I bought a Doug Peterson OOD34 (1981 I think) which I am presently...

Re: Do you really know and trust your boat?

I'm new here and also a new boat owner who got in the back door the same way. I recently bought an OOD34 that had been essentially left to rot so got it at what seemed a steal. After gutting it...
