Re: I-28 cabin heater

Joel,

Let me know how you solve the install. I am thinking of the same heater. I think you can get away with a shorter stack. I have seen it done but have no reports on how well it works.

Re: Pros and cons for a double ender/Canoe Stern

Agreed Marty,

If and when we go to a larger boat the newer designs will be our direction. The argument for performance, even for non racers, is hard to ignore.

Re: Pros and cons for a double ender/Canoe Stern

Next to the female form, canoes, double enders are the most appealing shape I know of.

I have a "collection" of canoes. A wide variety for a variety of uses. Amazing craft! Capable,...

We did the same thing for the same reasons! Love the Moyer exchange. A sweet engine.

Re: Line cutter

I have a balanced, spade rudder. I considered attaching a wire to the aft lower edge of the keel and running it to a "bail" on the bottom of the rudder. I did not do it. Drag, etc. concerns. We...

Re: Ice Box Rebuild

I mix and add it in "small" batches. I wouldn't take much. 32 0z. paper cups as mixing containers with each pre measured component poured in and quickly mixed, then poured into the void. Temp is...

Re: Bent Mast Advice

I successfully straightened a small mast like yours using a couple of trees that were growing close together. I just placed the mast between the trees where it needed the "adjustment" and carefully...

Re: Ice Box Rebuild

Why not pour in a 2 part marine (closed cell) urethane foam? That is my plan. I will dam off the open space behind the icebox, drill a couple of access holes and pour the stuff in. I have used it...

Re: I may try for a solo trip in Sept.

For heaven's sake GO! Plan your days. Look for weather. No "must-dos" except be on the hook by 4:00. Good food and drink. Enjoy!! Don't forget a couple of spare anchors. Ha!

Re: Arthur

For several good reasons our launch day, which was scheduled to be yesterday, got postponed. Can't say I am too disappointed we are on the hard for another week or so..

Re: What made you buy your boat?

FEAR!!

My wife and I were looking for a gunkholer to use along the Maine coast. We had <35' in mind. Had recently looked at a couple of prospects. The late November day I was hauling our...

Re: Olympians to sail in poo

Olympic sailors deserve better! Preparing to be competitive at that level is a huge life commitment. Asking these athletes to compete in an "open sewer" because the hosts can't do any better is...

Re: How to run aground properly

The cb, on our catboat, is the only depth gauge we have. Very useful when sailing in Merrymeeting Bay. Sand of course. "The cb is bouncing, time to fall off a bit and wait for a little more...

Re: Is "sailing performance" all in our heads?

It depends!! Ha! Like everything else about sailing. Performance? Comfort, Speed, Simplicity,... It also depends on the environs of the boat to some extent. They don't have to sail the America's...

Re: Anchor platform: critiques welcome

Bob,

That is my plan. It doesn't show in the cardboard mock up but the forward most "ears" of the "launcher" will be flared enough to allow the swivel to pass over that roller. It needs to be...

Re: Anchor platform: critiques welcome

I have been working on a bow roller, too. It is becoming a necessity as the Admiral and I get a bit older. I hate to put that "carbuncle" on the bow of our beautiful I-28 but lugging an anchor...

Re: The run aground poll

Which boat? Ha! Haven't hit anything with the Islander, yet!. We use the cb in the catboat as a depth gauge. When we feel it bouncing off the bottom we know it is time to alter course.

Re: Ocean baby rescue underway off Mexico

Seems like some of Slocum's kids were born aboard his ship. At least one died. Just saying. You can die waiting for care in an emergency room today. Or get wiped out by a drunk in a pick up the...
