Re: How to prevent corrosion: SS bolt in Al mast

I've been able to get it from the local West Marine store, or from an independent chandler in my area.

Re: Sheets for a PSC 34 V berth

We replaced ours with a FRP one straight from PS. The old wooden one was shot.

Re: Crealock-34 head

It's been a couple of months since I've had a chance to pop in. Lo and behold, here's a discussion of one of the issues we've come up against in our refit.

We decided to replace our old Groco KH...

Re: PSC 34 compression post

I believe the posts in the older boats were oak.

Re: Dodger

We're also doing a new dodger on Jo Beth. Our biggest issue was/is visibility when standing. With our existing dodger, the back bow crosses right at our line of sight. The new one will be slightly...

Re: Mast Pulpit on a 34

Very true. I find that proper dorades and boxes have the same effect. Jo Beth is getting those as well.

Re: Mast Pulpit on a 34

These will be the first set we've had on our own boat, but we've sailed on other boats fitted with them. The addition of the pulpits - or crutches or 'sissy-bars' - is something we've wanted to do...

Re: Mast Pulpit on a 34

Brian -

We checked out your installation before making our final decisions. We definitely believe they will make life aboard more safe and comfortable. Interesting idea on the jack line routing -

Re: Mast Pulpit on a 34

Al,

There are two primary reasons why we're putting them on Jo Beth:

1. Safety. They give us a strong point to lean against when working at the mast. Our control lines aren't led aft, so...

Re: Mast Pulpit on a 34

Thanks for the information.

No new pictures to share; the weather here went downhill again with the passing of yet another deep cold front. (THIS surely will be the last one for this winter!) Lots...

Re: Mast Pulpit on a 34

Here's a shot of the pulpits lying in the V-berth. It's that third leg - the one sticking up with the oblong mounting base - that has us concerned.

EDIT: Never mind - the pic was GINORMOUS!

If...

Re: Mast Pulpit on a 34

Hank -

Those are the pulpits we've seen on all the other 34's and 37's. The ones we have are built with a third post coming off the center of the top tube, which bolts between the dorade box and...

Mast Pulpit on a 34

As part of our refit, we ordered a set of mast pulpits from PS. They are three legged, with a teak crossbar - massive, sturdy, and gorgeous, just one would expect. However...

Re: Happy New Year from Jo Beth - and a Refit Update

Thanks Rich - glad to hear you're out of the yard!

Steve and the crew at Sail harbor are good guys and I'm glad your experience there with HUSH was a good one. I've know Steve for 10+ years now,...

Re: Yanmar heat exchanger issues on PS boats

After time, wear and deterioration of the wet exhaust system components is to be expected. The typical indicators most owners see as an 'end-of-life' sign for elbows, risers, and heat exchangers is a...

Re: Zincs on a Crealock 37

The pintle is bronze. Are you sure you have the correct zinc? I have a 34 and I believe the zinc for the pintle is the same as the 37. I'm pretty sure it's the T-20 size, if my memory is correct.

Re: Factory Refit Program

I echo Ed's comments about the level of exceptional service and expertise Thumper, Steve, and the entire crew at PS have to offer.

And though it's slightly off-topic to do so, I can say the same...

Re: Factory Refit Program

We very seriously considered going the factory refit route with Jo Beth. We made the trip to Washington, NC, met with Thumper, Steve, Rita, and some of the crew folks there, and spent the better part...

Re: Confused

"1984, Pacific Seacraft Crealock 34" or "1984 Crealock 34." Either or. That's how I identify Jo Beth.

Re: Confused

Faster is correct - the newer boats are 'stock' with equipment which was offered as an option on the earlier boats, particularly the very early boats, such as those built in the late '70's and early...

Re: What did you learn to sail on?

Began on a Sun Fish; then learned lots on Rhodes 19's and a Ranger 33. In 1985, I bought my first boat, a Starwind 190. Between then and now, have sailed on many different Catalina's, Hunter's,...

Re: Anybody have an engine monkey I could use?

Ah...yet another reason I'm glad Jo Beth is a tiller boat... :D

I've seen the cut out in other PS's and boats over the years. It is a good solution for the wheeled ones out there. And I readily...

Re: Microwaves vs. Crealocks'...

We've done the same with the q-berth, except we've used the 'wet-locker' area under the chart table for our ditch bag, EPIRB, and other safety gear. Dragging stuff out of the q-berth is a pain as it...
