my opinion is that the post is not sealed within the top case of the battery and gasses are venting out.

After a good dose of shock/bleach/vinegar how about running a hose from the sink back to the tank and letting the pump keep it circulating for a while.

Seems like the original poster has made his choice but fwiw there are commuter buses that go to DC,Annap.and Balt. that depart from the Kent Narrows waterfront on a daily basis.

More than likely where the threaded part of your bow eye is going to protrude into the boat will be in the "vee" formed by the stem. Unless you cut some blocking to flatten out and reinforce a spot...
